Is Prose a subscription?
It sure is! Prose calls their membership program “The Salon.” Since Prose hair products are meant to be used over time, and the company asks for feedback so that individuals’ custom formulations can be tweaked to better suit them with each new shipment, a subscription is recommended. However, you can make a one-time purchase of your custom hair products, and re-purchase anytime. You can pause or cancel your subscription in the “My Salon Membership” tab in your account.
What are The Salon benefits?
With your Prose subscription, you’ll receive a discount on every order, and you’ll get to enjoy free shipping. You can also choose when you’d like shipments to arrive. After your first subscription order is placed, you can book a 15-minute consultation with one of the Pros (aka a Prose stylist), either over a video call or phone call. The same 100% satisfaction guarantee that’s offered to all customers applies to subscribers, too, of course.
How much does Prose cost?
Prose hair products range from $25-$32 per 8.5 oz bottle of shampoo or conditioner and $38-$48 per 8.5 oz jar of pre-shampoo mask. Each is personalized to your unique needs.
How does Prose work?
First, you’ll take a hair quiz to communicate your hair type, needs, hair goals, and the environment where you live. Prose will suggest a custom formula and hair care routine specific to your needs, mix it to order, and ship it to you within 7-12 business days. Prose recommends using their products for 5-7 washes before determining results. As you use your custom Prose hair formulas, be sure to give feedback using their Review & Refine form, so that they can make tweaks and updates to your next shipment to improve your results over time.
Does Prose just sell shampoo and conditioner?
Prose offers a full line of hair care products. They include a pre-shampoo hair mask, pre-shampoo scalp mask, shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, dry shampoo, curl cream, and leave-in conditioner.
Do I get to choose my own Prose scent, or is that also recommended to me?
You get to choose your own scent from a variety of proprietary Prose blends. The scent options are Signature, Botanica, Perle, Corsica, Prelude, and Candela—or you can opt to go fragrance-free. Read about ingredients and aroma notes in each fragrance here.
Does Prose use natural ingredients in their hair products?
Yes, they do! Out of 76 potential ingredients, Prose uses the answers to your 25-question beauty quiz (and help from their team of chemists) to recommend the right combo for your hair. Prose’s ethically harvested mineral oils and extracts are globally sourced from trusted partners and continually researched to find areas of improvement. When your results are determined, you’ll have full access to the ingredients list, which outlines the reason for being included every time.

A Certified B Corporation is one that is committed to social and environmental betterment in their business practices. Prose promises ethical and sustainable harvesting of their ingredients, livable wages, and eco-friendly packaging.
What if Prose products don’t work for me?
Under Prose’s 100% satisfaction guarantee, you are offered a free formula update or a full refund within 60 days of your ship date. Formula adjustments are treated as one-time exchanges, and multiple exchanges are not offered on the same order. You can get this process started either by reaching out to [email protected] or heading to the Review & Refine section of your account. Be sure to come equipped with your order number and feedback. For both an exchange and a refund, Prose will provide a pre-paid return shipping label.
