As a bald man, every morning presents the same challenge: achieving a quick, smooth shave without irritation or cuts.
If you're like me, you know the struggle of using shavers that just don't seem up to the task—leaving uneven stubble and skin irritation. It’s clear that not all shavers are created equal, especially when it comes to maintaining a bald head.
So, I embarked on a mission to find the best head shaver specifically designed for bald men. I tested three top brands: Freebird, Skull Shaver, and Wahl. Over the past few weeks I’ve put these products head-to-head to finally determine which option reigns supreme.
Read on to see which shaver wins:
If You're After the Closest Shave Possible…Freebird

When it comes to getting a super smooth, clean shave, Freebird's FlexSeries is in a class of its own. The 5-blade pivoting head glides over every contour, getting right down to the skin without leaving any rough patches or stubble behind.
Unlike the Skull Shaver which took multiple passes, and the Wahl Clippers that just couldn't achieve a really close cut, the FlexSeries gave me a shave as close as a blade in one go - minus the cuts and irritation.
If You Want a Lightning Fast Shave…Freebird

Freebird claims you can shave your head in just 90 seconds with the FlexSeries, and boy, they aren't kidding. The turbo-powered 8,500 RPM motor and ultra-flexible pivoting head made quick work of even my thickest hair growth, mowing it down in just moments.
I was done shaving in the time it took the Skull Shaver to do half my head, while the Wahl Clippers lagged way behind. When every second counts, Freebird will get you out the door fastest.
If You’re Looking for Value…Freebird

When it comes to getting the best value for your money, Freebird clearly leads the pack. Priced at just $39.95, the Freebird FlexSeries offers an unmatched combination of performance and affordability. In comparison, Skull Shaver starts at $109 and the Wahl Clippers are tagged at $69.99.
If You Prefer More Blade Variety…Skull Shaver
The Skull Shaver has an edge if you're someone who likes to fine-tune their grooming tools. It offers 3, 4, or 5 blade counts to tailor your shave to your specific needs and preference, while the FlexSeries comes with just one 5-blade head.
But honestly? I found the 5-blade to be perfect and wouldn't want anything else, so for me this was a minor consideration.
If You're Going for a Buzzcut Look...Wahl Clippers
When your goal is a neatly trimmed buzzcut rather than a completely bald shave, you might want to reach for the Wahl Clipper. Unlike dedicated head shavers like the Freebird FlexSeries and Skull Shaver, which deliver a close, smooth shave, Wahl Clippers can only get as close as 1.5mm to the head.
They offer attachments that allow for various hair lengths, up to 25mm long, making them ideal for crafting a buzzcut or maintaining a specific hair length.
It's worth noting, though, that the Freebird FlexSeries includes a Precision Clippers attachment that converts the device into a trimmer, giving it added versatility for those times you’ve let your hair grow out a bit more than usual.
If You Value a Comfortable Shave in the Shower…Freebird

Another major selling point of the FlexSeries is how thoughtfully designed it is. Lightweight and ergonomic, it fits perfectly in my hand and is a breeze to maneuver, even in tricky spots like behind the ears. I love that it's waterproof so I can shave in the shower, and the USB charging couldn't be more convenient.
For me, the Skull Shaver comes in a close second; it’s also waterproof but doesn't fit quite as comfortably in the hand. The Wahl Clippers, on the other hand, are bulkier and corded, restricting their use to dry conditions, and just not as user-friendly overall.
The Ultimate Winner...Freebird
For me, the choice is crystal clear: if you want the best head shave of your life, go with the Freebird FlexSeries.
While the Skull Shaver and Wahl have their pros, neither can compete with the total package of a superior shave, time savings, ease of use, and overall value that you get with Freebird. Trust me, your skin will thank you!
