I Tried So Hard to Stain My Ruggable Rug—Here’s How it Went

I like to live dangerously, so I ordered a beautiful ivory/cream rug for the most high-traffic area of my toddler-occupied, dog-friendly house: the front foyer next to the kitchen.

Call me crazy, but Ruggable claims that their beautiful rugs are spill-proof and stain-resistant, so I figured it was with a shot.

Well, I tried to stain my Ruggable in pretty much every way possible (and I’m to blame). Here’s what happened when these four things got all over my Ruggable:

Level 1: Mud

A foyer rug is bound to get muddy at one point or another. After a week of rain, my brand new ivory rug was covered in muddy pawprints and beginning to look like my backyard: brown and wet. I for sure thought I’d have to get rid of it.

After the wash!

To my surprise, a lot of the mud dried up and was easily vacuumed away. And for the pawprints that wanted to stick around a little longer? The washing machine took them right off in just one regular wash cycle with mild detergent, dried on low heat. Pretty impressive, Ruggable.

Level 2: Food and drink spills

Did you know that coffee and tea can be used as dye? In middle school, I made paper look old by curling the edges and dyeing them with tea bags.

I may not be in middle school anymore, but that didn’t stop my tea from trying to dye my new rug. I accidentally tripped over the dog and spilled everywhere. As I stood there wondering if I could just dye the whole thing to blend the tea color, I realized something: the washing machine exists.

Close-up of the "after"!

I peeled the rug from the pad, and to my surprise, none of the liquid had soaked through to the pad. When it came out of the wash, there wasn’t a single spot of liquid left.

Level 3: Crayons

Before...

My toddler was given a pack of crayons by a kind server recently, and it didn’t take long for her to find her new canvas: my Ruggable rug. I briefly considered keeping the intensely colorful, yet very unflattering, family portrait on our foyer rug, but I couldn’t come to terms with the nose she gave me.

Into the washing machine the rug went! When it came out, it was a blank canvas again, and I canceled my consultation with the plastic surgeon.

After!

Level 4: Blood

Are you even a chef if you don’t slice your finger open every once in a while? I don’t know why we keep the Band-Aids three rooms over from the kitchen, but I hurried through the foyer and into the powder room without much thought.

Unbeknownst to me, several drops of blood formed on my beautiful Ruggable rug. By the time I managed to get a Band-Aid on my finger, the blood had stained it—or so I thought.

My husband threw the rug in the washing machine—which I didn’t even realize he knew how to use—and to our surprise, the blood was GONE. I could commit a crime and Ruggable would cover for me.

I’m redecorating every room with a Ruggable rug

I thought that no rug, especially one that’s cream-colored, would ever be a match for my family. Ruggable proved me wrong. It truly is indestructible and lives up to their claims of being liquid and strain resistant.

I’m already shopping for new living room, bedroom, and bathroom rugs! With free shipping, 30-day exchanges, and full refunds* for returns, why wouldn’t I? And why wouldn’t YOU? Their rugs start at $89, and they have a gazillion designs to choose from. There’s no better option out there!
