Ritual is a women’s vitamin subscription that focuses on the 9 most essential nutrients for women’s health. (They don’t include many of the nutrients in your typical multivitamin that most American women don’t need.) A monthly subscription is $30 for 60 capsules (a 30-day supply.)
I personally have tried a lot of multi-vitamins over the years and had a lot of stomach issues with them, so when I first learned about Ritual I was hoping that this different approach to vitamins would work for me.
I first reviewed Ritual after just one month of taking the vitamins. I’ve now been taking them for over a year, so I wanted to give you an updated review with a better sense of my thoughts + suggestions for who this vitamin is for.
Here’s everything you should know about Ritual before signing up:
Is Ritual allergen-free?
If you are looking for an allergen-free vitamin, you are in luck! Their founder is vegan, and the vitamin is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, nut-free, GMO-free, and manufactured in the USA. (I avoid dairy + gluten in my diet, so this was a must for me.)
What’s in the formula?
This is a big differentiator between Ritual and most other vitamins on the market. They aren’t trying to give you every single vitamin they can fit on the nutrition label. Instead, the vitamins in the formula are there to supplement the gaps in your diet.
This vitamin only includes:
- Boron
- Folate
- Iron
- Magnesium
- Omega-3 DHA
- Vitamin B12
- Vitamin D3
- Vitamin E
- Vitamin K2
Is it safe for sensitive stomachs?
This is probably my favorite part of the vitamin: Ritual designed the capsule with sensitive stomachs in mind:
We use a vegan, delayed-release capsule that not only bypasses the stomach to prevent nausea, but also ensures maximum absorption of the nutrients in Essential for Women. A lot of people also get nauseous from taking iron, but the form we use is ferrous bisglycinate, which has better tolerability, absorption, and efficacy than the other iron forms which may cause nausea.
I’ve had ZERO issues with stomach discomfort or nausea taking the vitamin, and that’s pretty rare for me. (I’ve tried a lot of vitamins in the past, including pricey natural ones like Honest Company’s, and had to stop taking them because they upset my stomach so much.)
It also has a lovely minty aftertaste!
What are the benefits of the vitamins in Ritual?
Here are the benefits Ritual lists on their site:
- Helps maintain energy, immunity, and skin.
- Supports red blood cells and vital internal organs like your heart.
- Helps your body use the calcium you get from food to keep your bones strong.
- Helps your body maintain tissue structure, fight free radicals, and age well from within.
While it’s hard for me to say for certain I’ve seen improvements in these areas AND can attribute them to Ritual, one thing I want to call out is Iron. I have always had low iron levels but never found an iron supplement that I could actually take without stomach pain until Ritual. And I’m pretty sure having adequate Iron levels has helped me with energy, so that alone is a win in my book.
What’s up with that capsule design?
And for the capsule itself, they use beadlet-in-oil technology that allows them to keep nutrients in their original forms and closer to what’s found in food.
Do I recommend Ritual?
I would recommend this vitamin subscription for anyone with a sensitive stomach who hasn’t found the perfect multivitamin yet. Also, if you’ve found it frustrating looking for a vitamin that doesn’t have a mile-long nutritional facts listing, the 9-ingredient formula might be perfect for you as well.
On the flip side, if you already have an inexpensive multi-vitamin that’s serving you well, this probably isn’t a necessary upgrade. (You can check out more about Ritual’s ingredients here and here, to see how your current vitamin compares.)
Oh, and if you are looking for a pre-natal vitamin and have nausea concerns, they also have a vitamin for you!
