If there is one question that brings dread to my days, it is this: “What’s for dinner?”
I’ve got places to go, work to do, bills to pay, and dogs to walk. If I’m being realistic, mapping out my meals, shopping for groceries, and cooking up a storm is just not high on my priorities list.
I knew I needed a prepared meal solution – something that would hit the spot, leave me feeling satisfied, and not eat up my time or budget. Because of this, I ordered two popular prepared meals – Nutre and Trifecta. Now having tried them both, one of them has definitely earned its place as my go-to - and is even offering 40% off!
For that part of me that craves restaurant quality meals at home… Nutre
I’ll admit, I want it both ways. My dream is to have fresh, delicious, ready-made meals… with zero effort on my part. Since I won’t be hiring a live-in private chef anytime soon, this might seem like a lot to ask, but then I tasted Nutre. You guys - I was blown away. Nutre meals are fresh (never frozen!), chef-cooked, and ready to eat in minutes.
This family-owned biz created by restaurant owners is the closest I’m ever getting to a personal chef.
Their Autumn Harvest Bowl was nothing short of a revelation; hearty, satisfying, and delicious. Even Nutre’s Chicken Stir Fry took me aback with how packed with flavor it is – I couldn’t believe they managed to keep that under 500 calories!
As for Trifecta’s dishes… let’s just say, they didn’t really grab me. Although their meals are also chef-curated, in my opinion, they tasted more like what you’d expect from a “healthy” meal, and less like something I’d actually eat in a restaurant.
As a picky eater that gets bored easily… Nutre
Fun fact about me: I love something one week, and I’m bored the next. I need variety in my diet to keep me from getting complacent. What I love about Nutre is that they have 50+ meals and snacks to choose from, with new specials added every week. It’s actually impossible for me to get bored – even breakfasts are delish with options like Apple Cinnamon Roll Pancakes (🤤) and cold pressed juices for on-the-go mornings.
Trifecta has a fair amount of options too, but I noticed new menu items were less common. While there’s some seasonal offerings and new additions every month or so, I’m a little too impatient to wait weeks at a time.
If I were an athlete with a highly specific diet… Trifecta
I have to hand it to Trifecta – they prep with performance in mind. Their meals are high in protein, but all those muscles on their website had me a little intimidated. I wondered if I was even the right customer for these meals. Don’t get me wrong – I want to eat healthy, but I feel like Trifecta might be best suited for weightlifters over a regular person like me.
Nutre meals felt way more approachable to me. Their meals are also healthy, packed with protein (I can even add Protein + to my meal selections for a boost!), and there’s low sodium options, as well as meals free of gluten, dairy, soy, egg, nuts, etc. Don’t ask me how, but Nutre’s dieticians and chefs strike just the right balance of flavor, quality, and nutritional value.
The one that’s easier on my purse strings… Nutre
Since cost is a factor, I crunched the numbers and found that I can save anywhere from $80 to over $385 per month with Nutre over Trifecta, depending on the order.
Nutre’s pricing is simple: for a smaller plan that includes 5-9 meals per week, the cost is $12.99/meal. The more I order, the more I stand to save; the cost per meal can be as low as $9.99 with a 20 meal/week plan. What's even better is that for a limited time, Nutre is offering 40% off for new customers. If you've been thinking of trying Nutre, now is the perfect time!
Trifecta, however, is much pricier. For a plan that includes 7 entrees per week, I’d have to spend $110.99 (~$15.86/meal). Even when I increase my plan to 14 entrees per week, I’m still spending $15.71/meal, which doesn’t really extend me much of any savings.
My ultimate choice… Nutre
At the end of the day, I’m really glad that I explored my meal plan choices, and tried these two very different prepared options, but only one really made my taste buds swoon. For its flavorful restaurant quality dishes, fresh nutritious variety, and approachable price point, for me, it’s Nutre all the way. Trifecta’s offerings were fine, but life’s too short for me to settle for anything less than love at first bite.
