As an avid yogi and outdoorsy mom of two, I spend a lot of time in the sun. There’s nothing better than teaching yoga to my students outside and feeling connected to nature every day! But a key part of being a safe sun-worshipper is finding the perfect sunscreen, especially for my face. 🙌
I expect my sunscreen to do more than just protect me from harmful rays—I want it to change my skin. Okay, that’s a tall order, but I came across two transparent formulas with rave reviews—Prime Prometics’ PrimeSkin Protect and Supergoop!’s Unseen Sunscreen. Here’s what happened when I took them for a test run:
For a mature skin-friendly sunscreen… Prime Prometics PrimeSkin Protect
Being in your 40s is not the end of the world, but lots of cosmetic and skincare brands overlook the fact that mature skin needs special attention. Prime Prometics’ PrimeSkin Protect doesn’t just have SPF 40—it goes above and beyond to address mature skin concerns. It reduces photoaging from UV rays, protects from blue light, and even works to repair your moisture barrier to prevent collagen from breaking down.
When I applied it, my skin felt instantly hydrated, and looked glowy but not oily! I used to get red and inflamed, but since wearing PrimeSkin Protect, I’m not seeing any angry skin (thanks, calming aloe vera and green tea). 🍵
Supergoop!’s Unscreen Sunscreen has a very silicone-y texture, which didn’t feel comfortable on my skin. I felt greasy instead of glowy, and it didn’t curb my redness as much.
For a sunscreen that isn’t just for your face… Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen
While the face is important, you can’t forget the rest of your body! To go along with their face sunscreen, Supergoop! has a matching Unseen Sunscreen Body SPF 40 to ensure you’re protected from head to toe. Prime Prometics doesn’t yet have a body sunscreen, but I can only hope they’ll come out with one!
For a non-pore clogging formula… Prime Prometics PrimeSkin Protect
Even though I haven’t had to worry about acne for a while, I still don’t want to get milia or other bumps on my face! PrimeSkin Protect has no oil, is non-comedogenic (aka: non-pore clogging), and absorbs right in. It’s really light and doesn’t have any white cast or residue, whereas Supergoop!’s formula is heavier. I haven’t had a single breakout since using PrimeSkin—I’m obsessed!
This is the first formula that hasn’t broken me out into huge, painful acne. Thank you! - Jillian, 62 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
For a lightweight & scentless formula… it’s a tie
Both of these sunscreens are oil-free, lightweight, unscented, and transparent, so it’s a tie on that basis alone. They are also both cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and dermatologist tested. Big wins all around!
As an added bonus, they’re comparable as far as price goes. PrimeSkin costs $35 for 1.7 oz, whereas Unseen Sunscreen is $38 for the same amount, and both offer free shipping over $50.
For double-duty as a makeup primer… Prime Prometics PrimeSkin Protect
Since I spend so much time outdoors, I want sunscreen that can work with my makeup, not against it. PrimeSkin Protect left a velvety, gripping finish behind—honestly, it held on to my makeup better than most makeup primers I’ve tried! PrimeSkin is also sweat & water resistant, so even when I’m out teaching yoga, my makeup still looks flawless. 🧘♀️
Wearing makeup over the Unseen Sunscreen didn’t hit the mark for me—the slippery texture made my foundation feel like it was sliding off my face.
Final Verdict… Prime Prometics PrimeSkin Protect
Both sunscreens pose their advantages, but Prime Prometics' PrimeSkin Protect is the clear winner for me. Thanks to the SPF 40 protection, mature skin-friendly formula, enhanced skincare benefits, makeup compatibility, and excellent value, it’s my new go-to sunscreen. For all my fellow mature ladies out there, take it from me: you need PrimeSkin Protect! ✨
