You know what’s not fun? Seeing your kid cry. As a parent, it’s literally the worst. I’m talking about the wolf-howling-snot-bubbles-inconsolable type of crying that happens when someone loses. No game is worth that. And yet, for my family of 5, we had to learn that the hard way. Over and over and over.
I thought family game night would always end in tears, until I found a better game that’s actually fun for the whole family.
Enter OuiSi.
It’s an engaging creative matching game that’s completely open-ended and suitable for all ages. You get a set of 210 beautiful photo cards that players can connect in whatever way inspires them.
Without a doubt, I truly believe that this game is needed for every family. Here’s why:
1. No screens, no problem
First off, the game, OuiSi, is an amazing way to get the kids, and even the adults, away from screens. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love a good 10pm scroll of TikTok but we were doing that too often.
Once we got this game, we committed for a week to play it for 45 minutes an evening. Just to see how it impacted our screentime impulses. It was impressive. Each day, the technology’s gravitational pull was shrinking because we were enjoying playing!
2. “Aha!” moments bring the family together
Secondly, at the top of the year, we pushed hard to make family time a bigger priority. OuiSi was a big part of that. Apart from the open-ended visual connections (“this card reminds of that one”), OuiSi includes a guide full of other creative games and activities, so it provides endless hours of fun.
But ultimately we just appreciated the fact that we all could slow down and embrace the moments as a unit. Laughing around the coffee table. The “aha” moments that occur as my kids share their reasoning and connections are so valuable, insightful, and purely joyous to see. OuiSi helped us strengthen our bonds as a family in these moments.
3. Everybody wins!
Lastly, to put it mildly, there’s a vast valley between the people in our family who love competition and those who’d be content to deem “everyone a winner.” OuiSi has been our great mediator.
Not only do all of the various games encourage so much freedom and creativity; but there’s also a vibe that the game creates where “winning” isn’t the focus like so many other games. If I had a dollar for every time I wrongly thought there’d be an argument playing OuiSi I’d be a thousandaire!
The takeaway
I’ll say it like this. Our time as a family has drastically improved this year and sitting together and playing games like OuiSi is a big part of it. Now, do we still want to scroll and laugh aimlessly at baby birds struggling to eat their supper? Obviously. But, we’ve grown so much as a team and we’re getting along without tears and snot bubbles.
