My Underclub Review — Designer Underwear Picked for Your Preferences

UNDERCLUB REVIEW

Everything You Need To Know About This Women's Underwear Subscription

Underclub is an underwear subscription that sends 1-2 pairs each month from various designers. Underclub is size-inclusive, offering options in sizes XS-4X. The subscription experience kicks off with a quiz to understand your preferences and style so that your monthly deliveries are catered to your tastes. Underclub also has an exclusive-to-subscribers shop that sells underwear, bralettes, sets, bodysuits, pajamas, shapewear, and more. You can add items from the shop to your subscription as one-time purchases!

I admit that when it comes to undergarments I'm typically a classic cotton-wearing girl these days. While style is just as much of a factor in my underthings as comfort, I need to not have to think about my underwear while I'm going about my day. While I scrolled through Underclub's shop to get a sense of their offerings I noticed lots of sultry styles (with a few cozy pairs mixed in), but I really like the inclusivity and community focus of this brand so I wanted to give them a try, see what they would match me with, and maybe add some excitement to my low-key life at home over here by trying something new.

Sizes and Genders

Underclub carries undergarments in a size range of XS-4XL. If you visit their Shop you'll see that not all styles are available in the full-size range, but on their drop-down menu of filter options, you can choose to view all items that come in "Curvy" sizes. After poking around this category a bit, it seems to me that in order to be included in the Curvy category, an item must be available in at least an XL.

While Underclub exclusively carries underwear, bras, bralettes, bodysuits, shapewear, and pajamas traditionally thought of as feminine, they are a gender-inclusive company, meaning they welcome underthing-wearers who identify as any gender to join the club.

Signing Up

The first decision you'll make when signing up for Underclub is twofold: whether you'd like to receive Signature or Luxe underwear, and whether you'd like to receive 1 or 2 pairs per month.

From there you'll be asked your preferences on the following:

  • Underwear size (with a size chart to help you) & pants size
  • Styles — Sleek & Sexy, Feminine & Flirty, Bold & Fun, and/or Clean & Classic
  • Colors  — Brights, Lights, Darks, Neutrals, Nudes, and/or Neons
  • Prints — Stripes, Animal Prints, Florals, Fun Prints, and/or Solid
  • Coverages — Thong, Tanga, Bikini, Cheeky, and/or Boyshort
  • An open field for any additional info you might like to include, with examples to help you gauge the types of requests people make.

At the tail end of the quiz, Underclub takes you to a page where optional add-ons are recommended based on your responses. Add-ons are basically like tacking an item from the Shop onto your order (and getting the benefit of that sweet free shipping on it!), and are one-time purchases that don't renew with your subscription. If you don't want to add anything to your order, you'll just click "Next" and be taken to the final slide, where you'll decide how many months you'd like to commit to.

You'll see here that the longer the subscription you commit to, the higher the monthly value (this isn't uncommon for subscriptions). Know, though, that if you choose "Month to Month," your subscription will auto-renew each month—it's not a one-time purchase.

My Underclub Double Luxe Review

For the purpose of this review, I was sent the Luxe plan with 2 pairs per month. In the introductory quiz, I answered that I would be open to styles that fall under the categories of both Clean & Classic (my usual day-to-day underwear is a cotton bikini cut or cotton high-waisted style) and Bold & Fun (this is admittedly a little out of character for me but I think I was swayed by the awesome pair they showed for that category in the quiz). In terms of colors and patterns, I said I'd be open to lights, darks, and neutrals, as well as stripes, florals, and solid. The silhouettes I'm open to are tanga, cheeky, and bikini. And in the open field I wrote, "I prefer cotton underwear, or at least a cotton gusset."

Here's what came in my box:

Your first Underclub shipment will arrive with this small welcome card. While I found myself missing a packing slip or info card to know exactly what I was sent, I do also appreciate minimal waste in a subscription, so those two wishes balanced each other out. The welcome note lets you know that you'll be receiving a follow-up email so you can offer your feedback on what you were sent.

The 2nd card pictured above is what each pair of underwear comes folded around: a little note of affirmation. It made me smile! "Your butt is perfect"—I mean, who doesn't need to hear this? "Your mind is insanely cool"—thank you for recognizing me as more than just my body! I got such a good vibe from this encouraging message.

Cosabella Sweet Treats Stripe Hotpant — Retail Value $21.50

Given what I thought were somewhat conservative quiz answers and my comment about preferring cotton underwear, I was surprised to open my package to find lots of lace! I will say off the bat, though, that every pair of underwear I was sent has a cotton gusset, so Underclub did fulfill my request. This rosy-beige pair has all-over mesh stripes, and I must say that mesh underwear has come a long way since I first wore it—these are really soft and not scratchy at all. The silhouette is a flattering mid-rise with a broad waistband and a cheeky back. This underwear completely goes for it in terms of sheerness, but I found them to be comfortable and suited to everyday wear.

Underclub carries this underwear as part of a set with a matching bralette in their shop for $39. See it here.

Titov Aubrey Bikini

How's this pair for a statement? Sure, I've given sexy underwear a try a few times in my day, but this bold pair is a new style for me with its complete sheer lace and back keyhole. They've got a low rise, and their black piping offers a nice contrast to the feminine feel. While they're indicated as a bikini pair, they don't have a ton of back coverage—they fit more like a cheeky cut on me.

My Underclub Add-On

Underclub sexy black lace bralette and underwear set

Toast Lace Bralette & Cheeky Set with Velour Trim — Buy the set for $49

As I explained above, Underclub subscribers have the option to include an add-on from their Shop to your subscription shipment. If you take a quick browse of the shop you'll see that many things are sold in sets, but the good news is you have the opportunity to choose your size for both the top and the bottom. That's a huge deal! It's so common for people to wear a different size on the top than they do on the bottom, myself included.

I am in love with this bralette. The mesh-and-lace combo is really beautiful without being too over-the-top sexy. The crisscrossing straps in both front and back add interest and helped this bralette hug close to my body without gapping anywhere. I wear bralettes all the time and it's my preference that they don't include any sort of clasp because I find them bumpy under my shirt and uncomfortable to lean back on. But my favorite part about this piece is the velour trim. It adds texture and is so soft. This isn't normally the type of piece I'd think of myself as wearing day-to-day, but it's comfortable enough that I think I might!

The matching underwear, though, I might save for special occasions. I suggest taking a peek at this underwear on-model to see how the straps lie when worn. They crisscross along the waist in the front and back, and they do create a bit of a gap in the front of the lace part, but nothing too dramatic. This pair is extremely low-rise with a revealing back cut—they're not as soft as the other pairs that came in my box but they still feel special.

Monthly Review Email

A few days after your delivery arrives, Underclub sends a "monthly review" email to gather feedback on how you liked your shipment. They emphasize completing the review so that your profile can be strengthened and your next month's order can be improved.

The review doesn't require too much of subscribers—it just asks a general rating, a fit rating, and the option to include additional comments. And whereas there isn't a packing slip included in the monthly package that indicates the exact style(s) you received that month, your monthly review email does list the brand and style of each pair next to a photo of the underwear in your box. I personally like this context from my subscriptions—not to seem distrustful, but I often Google the contents of my subscriptions to corroborate the quality and value—so I was glad to find this info represented somewhere.

My Verdict

I had so much fun exploring my first Underclub delivery. This subscription took me out of my comfort zone and introduced me to underwear that I wouldn't have chosen for myself, but I'm glad I tried. The beige striped pair surprised me in the best of ways in that it was softer and more comfortable than I was expecting, introducing me to a new type of style for everyday wear. The teal lace pair might not be something I reach for day-to-day, but it fits nicely and is something special to have handy in my top drawer. Value-wise, the 2-pair subscription at the Luxe tier costs $35 per month + free shipping. I wasn't able to find a retail value for the teal lace pair of underwear, but the beige pair alone costs $21.50 when purchased directly from the retailer, so the teal pair would only have to cost $13.50 to make this box break even. The Luxe tier underwear from Underclub is said to be of a $28-$55 value per pair, so I was a little disappointed to find the Cosabella underwear for such a low cost from the brand itself, but despite this particularity, I felt I received a $35 value from this box.

My add-on this month cost $49. Add-ons are not included in the price of an Underclub subscription, but you do save shipping costs by including it in your subscription delivery. Since the bralette alone ended up being such an awesome fit for me, I feel the $49 cost for this set is worth it.

I LOVED the idea of the service, but the execution is wanting.

I received my first two pairs from the luxe service, and neither were flattering (for reference, I’m 5″5″, 140lb, 36-27-25 – neither over weight nor in tip top shape.) I don’t usually struggle to find undies that are flattering, but both of these featured a narrow elastic at the waist, which gave me a little muffin top. Weren’t over all too small, they were comfortable – just unflattering. One was actually a little on the big side overall, with excess fabric draping in the crotch.

Customer service informs me that while they don’t accept returns (I get it, what are you going to do with them? I’m sure larger companies that accept underwear returns just destroy them, for the most part, which is painfully wasteful.) They do allow two pairs to be exchanged – but just two over the course of your subscription, so after that…you’re essentially buying a gamble.

This is a great service I think, if you are VERY un-picky about how your underwear look/fit, or if you are very fit and a vast majority of styles are flattering on you. 🙂 Otherwise, I can’t recommend it.

I have never given much thought or put a ton of effort into finding high quality underwear, because it was always too much to go out and shop for it myself. Underclub is an amazing subscription where all the work is done for me! I know that each month designer pairs will be delivered straight to my door. The cherry on top is that I know my comments & rating will help personalize my subscription to fit me personally!

I hate shopping for underwear in person- especially with the pandemic! Having beautiful designer pairs shipped straight to my house is just what I needed to treat myself during this time. I also love how the stylists read my reviews each month and select styles that reflect my feedback!

Such a cool subscription idea! For the money, it’s totally worth the joy I get from receiving the pink package every month and I’m always surprised on how right on they get my style and preferences. I love every pair they send!
