With the rise of remote working and schools, many people (including myself) found something was missing in the homes they had in the office: snacks. In my case, we try to keep our groceries relatively healthy to avoid the mindless snacking cravings in the middle of the night. Learning about Vegancuts and their Snack Box subscription was a promising solution for my worries.

Vegancuts is a subscription box that curates vegan products from new and established brands. At the moment, they offer curated boxes for vegan snacks, beauty, and makeup products. Their promise is simple: receive at least ten items per month that are 100% cruelty-free and vegan.

As a modern flexitarian – someone who eats primarily vegan but occasionally indulges in vegetarian options – Vegancuts seemed like an exciting subscription box to try. I was excited to change up my boring vegan snack options. Ordinarily, fruits and seeds, and for more elaborate picks, say baked goods and candies. If you’re wondering whether or not a subscription box filled with vegan snacks is worth the investment, keep reading for a complete review of the Vegancuts Snack Box.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

About Vegancuts Snack Box

vegancuts cardboard box with vegan snacks around it
Vegancuts says it works with expert curators to source vegan products from around the world. In each delivery, you’ll receive 10+ vegan snacks, meal items, and beverages to try. They’ll also share exclusive offers and discounts to purchase these items from their subscriber’s marketplace.

Each product goes through a rigorous evaluation by experts that help ensure all products not only have ingredients that are vegan but that their manufacturing processes are also cruelty-free.

Every month, Vegancuts’ boxes follow a specific theme. For example, August’s box was all about on-the-go favorites. They focused on the back-to-school season and lunchbox-friendly items you could take to the office for those returning to the office. At the same time, each month, Vegancuts chooses a charity animal sanctuary. This month’s box supports Barn Sanctuary in Michigan, a rescuing and rehabilitating center taking abused and neglected farmed animals. closed vegancuts cardboard box over a pink background

Can Vegancuts Snack Boxes be customized?

The Snack Box cannot be customized, but Vegancuts says it tries to keep the products varied enough to never get more than 1 or 2 items that you won't like or be able to eat. While the snacks aren't entirely gluten-free, the majority of things they feature are (about 80%), and Vegancuts does indicate which are and aren't in its insert.

Is the sugar in the Snack Box products vegan?

Yes. The Vegancuts team vets every product and requires brands to verify the vegan status of all sugar ingredients. No product in this box will ever contain bone-char processed sugar.

Vegancuts Snack Box Review

The moment I opened the box, I was honestly surprised at the number of snacks perfectly tucked inside the box. Here’s what the Vegancuts Snack Box August 2021 box included.

Bakery On Main Organic Almond & Vanilla Instant Oatmeal Cup
4/5 stars

This was the ultimate superfood to start the morning. This nourishing, delicious oatmeal with probiotic cultures and quinoa will keep you full throughout the morning. I loved how creamy it felt, mainly because all you add is water. However, with almost 10 grams of added sugar, this was not the healthy breakfast I had in mind. I guess the 10 grams of protein make it all worth it.

Taali Water Lily Pops: Tangy Turmeric
5/5 stars

These airy, crunchy, salty treats are the best thing I’ve ever tried to calm my afternoon cravings. They have a unique tangy flavor that’s hard to describe. Plus, they’re gluten-, grain-, corn-, soy-, GMO-, and dairy-free; what else can you ask from a vegan snack? Out of the box, this was one of those items I’m repurchasing.

Rulebreaker Birthday Cake Blondie
3.5/5 stars

My inner kid was jumping with excitement when I saw this blondie inside the box. A plant-based birthday cake blondie seemed like the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. While I wasn’t a huge fan of the flavor, I still give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. The flavor seemed too artificial for my taste. Also, looking at the nutrition facts, it has tons of added sugars and saturated fats. Nonetheless, for a gluten-free and nut-free snack, this seemed like a choice a kid will love.

Hungry Buddha Lemon Blueberry Keto Bar
4.5/5 stars

While I’m not keto, I enjoyed having a diet-based option introduced in the box. It felt like a great way to try different things. The lemon-blueberry keto bar was a great breakfast option more than an afternoon snack, in my opinion. I can easily see this as something you’ll have on your way to work early in the morning. The looks are very deceiving, and it doesn’t look tasty at all. But the flavor is packed in there. This was one of the very few items that were low in sugar (only 2 grams), and out of the bunch, it was the one that felt the most natural.

Rishi Tea Sparkling Botanicals
5/5 stars

I wasn’t expecting to find canned, sparkling water in this box – but I’m glad they added one. This was my first time trying sparkling botanicals, and the turmeric-saffron flavor was a bit scary to me. However, the taste is utterly refreshing, with a hint of lemon in the background. I live in Florida, and the afternoons can get pretty hot, so this was the perfect refreshment to keep myself sane while working.

Snacklinks Nacho Plant Crisps
2/5 stars

Out of the whole box, I was excited to try these chips. At only 90-calories, I was looking forward to including these chips in my snack repertoire. While the crunchiness was there, and the nutrition facts proved it was a guilt-less option, the flavor was missing. Overall, the chips felt very bland, and they didn’t pack the punch I was hoping to get from nacho chips.

Prince of Peace Ginger Chews
5/5 stars

Okay, these ginger chew candies stole the show. My husband and I are obsessed with these tiny candies. They’re hard, chewy candies that start melting in your mouth to deliver a sucker punch of fresh ginger flavor to your mouth. It will instantly wake you up, feel refreshing, and calm down any craving you might have. Plus, the fact that they arrive individually wrapped makes them ideal for tossing on your bag or lunch box if you’re heading out for the day.

Octonuts Almond Protein Powder
4/5 stars

Vegancuts also include some meal items like this protein powder that can easily make whatever you want. I used mine to add some protein to my morning smoothies and turned some almond milk into protein almond milk to elevate my morning coffee. The taste is very subtle, so it works for anything you want.

Blake’s Seed-Based Birthday Cake Rice Crispy Treat
5/5 stars

While the first sweet treat was a tad disappointing, their rice crispy treat made up for it. Made with flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds, I was amazed that this treat was 100% vegan. It was a surprising treat that kids and adults alike would enjoy. Plus, it’s made in a nut-free and gluten-free facility, perfect for anyone with allergies.

Karma Nuts Sea Salt Wrapped Cashews
5/5 stars

At first, you might think that cashews are nothing special, but when you first put these into your mouth, you’ll be surprised. I was blown away by the taste of these air-roasted cashews. Probably because they are one of the very few I’ve tried that still had their natural skins. The result? A deliciously ultra-nutty flavor with a hint of salt that I need to have every day now. This is another product that I would repurchase.

Vegan Beauty Products and Surprises

While not all boxes will include this, mine came with a small bag with some of their august picks for the Vegancuts Beauty Box. Just like their snack box, their beauty subscription also follows a theme and supports a sanctuary. The August Vegancuts Beauty Box was all about brands that give back and support the Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge in North Carolina.

Their beauty box included:

  • Dr. Botanicals Lemon Superfood All-In-One Rescue Butter
  • Earth Kiss Kombucha & Charcoal Exfoliating Clay Mask
  • Legendary Apothecary Smooth Feet
  • Palmetto Derma Pace & Love Grapefruit Bath Bomb

Alternatives to Vegancuts Snack Box

Vegancuts isn’t the only one delivering vegan foods to your doorstep when it comes to vegan snack boxes. Let’s explore some alternatives to Vegancuts you might want to try as well.

SnackSack vs. Vegancuts Snack Box

  • SnackSack starts are $25.95 per month and let you pay as you go. They also offer the same 3-months, 6-months, and 12-months prepaid subscription options as Vegancuts.
  • Like Vegancuts, SnackSack doesn’t offer personalization about the type of snacks you can include in your box. However, they do offer personalization with delivery frequencies, with options to get bi-weekly deliveries.

The Vegan Box vs. Vegancuts Snack Box

  • The Vegan Box has a monthly subscription that starts at $25 per month. However, their box includes only 6-8 new vegan products consisting of snacks and other lifestyle items, unlike Vegancuts that focuses on 10+ vegan snacks per box.
  • Unlike Vegancuts, which includes primarily gluten-free items, The Vegan Box has an option to ensure that every item on your box is marked as gluten-free.

B’Bites Vegan Snacks + Coffee Box vs. Vegancuts

  • B’Bites includes an assortment of B’ Bites Snacks with a bag of coffee starting at $26 per month. However, unlike Vegancuts, this box only contains eight vegan snacks from a single brand.
  • B’ Bites subscription box is only available with a monthly subscription that auto-renews every month. They also offer fewer products since their snacks are only nut-based and dried fruits, with no options to pick and choose your favorites.

My Verdict

As a full-time remote worker, receiving a curated box with vegan snacks that I can trust is fantastic. At only $24.95 per month, it seems like a worth-it subscription that makes my life easier. While I know the box won’t be enough to cover my snacks for the month, it’s an easy way to discover new vegan snacks without committing to a full-size bag or box at the grocery store.

I love the fact that with my subscription, not only I’m supporting brands that give back, but Vegancuts themselves are giving back supporting animal sanctuaries every month. It feels like a win-win situation. In my opinion, Vegancuts is 100% worth it, and I would easily recommend it to anyone looking to include more vegan-friendly options in their snacks and meals.

Years back I had a subscription, unfortunately I had to give it up. I am highly allergic to dairy. Vegancuts frequently chooses “vegan” items that are manufactured on equipment that is shared with dairy products. I am so sensitive, even a very small amount of dairy will make me very ill.

I wound up throwing away or giving away so many items in my monthly box it because a frustrating and wasteful subscription for me.

And, if dairy is present even in small amounts, is the product actually vegan? I wish companies were as careful with manufacturing procedures as for gluten allergies, which use dedicated manufactories.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this insight. I think it’s very tricky when companies don’t disclose ingredients/processes that could trigger allergies. We have to do better.
