Veri vs. Nutrisense: Battle of the Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) Apps

As a healthy foodie and self-care enthusiast, I’m always looking to upgrade my health. Any product that lets me learn more about my body and how to improve, I’m there! 💪

So, when my pilates bestie introduced me to something called a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), I was instantly intrigued. It’s a small device you wear on your arm to measure your unique blood sugar response to foods you eat. 🥗 I know some people get them from their doctor, but apparently, it can be really helpful for people who are trying to be more proactive as well. I’m treating it as my personal metabolic health coach!

Two big companies using CGMs out there are Veri and Nutrisense, so I got right to work testing them both. Here’s the CGM I love:

If you value a flexible membership… Veri

Since I’m not diabetic, my curiosity over CGMs stems from wanting to unlock more restful sleep and have more energy. 😴 I’m also working toward a better understanding of my hormones, but others may be looking to lose weight or smooth out chronic health issues. Regardless of your CGM journey, Veri has a plan for you.

Veri is the only CGM membership that doesn’t require you to purchase a sensor with them. So, if you already own sensors or can find them somewhere cheaper, you can still use their app!

If you need sensors, Veri makes it super simple—especially for US folks who would normally have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get a CGM (a prescription is needed there). You just fill out a short questionnaire to clarify your eligibility, get your free prescription, and they’ll send you two sensors (28 days of tracking) every three months. They set it up like this so you’re not constantly wearing a CGM, which can be tiring and expensive.

To be honest, I never wear my CGMs back-to-back—it’s nice to take breaks and use what I’ve learned. If you want more sensors per quarter, they’ll sell them to you at-cost. Basically, you can do no sensors or as many as you want!

The most cost-effective CGM service… Veri

You can enjoy Veri for $39 per month for the app only, or $109 per month for the app + quarterly shipment of two sensors. In terms of investments in my health, that feels completely worthwhile. Plus, the prescription and shipping are free.

Nutrisense starts at $399 per month. You can save with longer plans, but even the most affordable tier is the 12-month plan at $225 per month. They send you two sensors per month instead of quarterly, but that’s a pretty big commitment for first-time CGM users, and not a cheap commitment, either.

If you feel you need a dietician on hand… Nutrisense

If you’re new to CGMs, Nutrisense keeps dietitians on staff to answer questions and help set goals. That said, the memberships only come with 1 free month of dietician support. After that free trial, the cost to work with a dietitian through Nutrisense is $100 per month.

Veri doesn’t provide dietitians, but they build guidance features right into the app so you can learn how to interpret the data to make the diet and lifestyle changes you need. That’s my preference! I already have a wellness coach who knows dietetics, so the extra $100 wasn’t really worth it. Veri also has a super responsive support team! Love them.

If you crave an inviting online wellness community… Veri

I mean, who doesn’t? Short of retreats or personal projects, going at it alone is decidedly not a form of self-care. Nutrisense has a private Facebook group for members, for support, questions, and convo. It’s nice to see, but I didn’t love having to use Facebook.

But Veri actually has its own online community, built right into the app. It feels much more integrated and you can see their support team and coaches in there, really building an intentional community rather than just a Facebook group.

My choice is Veri, and here’s why

My top reasons for choosing Veri are its plan flexibility, its community, and its affordable cost. But best of all, I’ve seen amazing results from monitoring my glucose levels! I’ve already seen progress toward my personal health goals and I’m still going strong. If you’re thinking about trying a CGM to better your wellness, I highly recommend Veri! 🤩
