Can you do a review on What a Crock meals? I have been considering them for a while now.

RealEats was my absolute fave but now that it’s gone I’m left searching yet again for a healthy Pre-Made meal service. I used Factor for a while but due to our dietary issues their selection is very slim. Looks like Sprinly is the only alternative on your list. Please post if you know of any others that are worth trying, Thanks!

Has anyone tried What a Crock? I placed a one time order that’s supposed to be here Thursday. It looks good and easy. If we like it, I’m going to send some to my father-n-law to try along with a 2 quart crock pot and some liners. He’s been ordering From The Schwan man for a few years. He’s 90 and lives by himself.

Could you do a post that talks about meal kits that are friendly for dietary issues? I’m gluten free and my BF needs to be dairy free, so between the two of us it makes picking a meal kit complicated! Would love an easy to read post broken out by dietary restrictions etc… thanks!!!

Hi I use TrifectaNutrition.com meals as they are very friendly to my diabetic lifestyle.

Hi June! Thanks so much for dropping this comment! Your request inspired us to create a post (with charts!) to help our community easily find the meal kit that meets multiple dietary needs. You can check it out here: https://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/best-meal-subscriptions-for-dietary-restrictions-and-allergies

I’m gluten free and dairy free. I have found Marley and Spoon to be the best and tastiest for my needs.

This is a great request, June! Absolutely!

We signed up for Factor a few weeks ago and it’s great! My son has after school sports and I’m the “taxi”. It’s almost impossible for us to cook a meal those evenings. We’re very impressed with the quality and quantity of the meals.

We can’t get Marley spoon in northern Minnesota and they’ve been saying “coming soon” for over a year. Would like to try it.

Sorry to hear that, Kelly! That’s a bummer. Hopefully, they’ll open up subscriptions to your area soon. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks!!

I usually just buy $100 worth of Chinese food take out and eat on that for several days. You can even freeze it.
I mean that’s $10 for Rice $10 for Chow Mein and 7 $10 entrees.

It feeds 2 people for several days lunch & dinner and you don’t even have to cook.

And we wonder why there’s an obesity epidemic. People like this who eat fast and takeout foods for every meal.

Reply ButtonReply

tpop

The “obesity epidemic” is a made-up term and has no real scientific/medical data. Obesity is a complex medical condition with many causes, some of which are not scientifically understood. It is absolutely false that what you eat is the only cause or solution. Also, this person does not say they eat takeout every meal. Most importantly, it’s not your business to judge what other people eat.

Sue

Yikes! That’s so unhealthy.

I recently signed up for Factor and I’m in love! Everything I’ve tried has been delicious (except the chipotle black bean soup, which was a bit bland for me and I wouldn’t spend that much on it again). It’s incredibly convenient and the quality of the ingredients they use is fantastic. I was very pleasantly surprised, because I don’t do diets and I’m definitely a foodie. The only downside is that it’s pricey, especially if you’re feeding more than one. I order the 6 meal plan, and eat them for lunch (price is comparable to takeout), and cook regular dinners for my family.

I also get Home Chef, and I really appreciate the oven-ready selections they have. I don’t have a ton of time to spend in the kitchen, and Home Chef does most of the prep work in their oven-ready & 15 minute meals. They taste good and the portion sizes are generous.

I got Hello Fresh for about a year prior to discovering Home Chef. Their meals are good and I liked them, but they require more prep/ time in the kitchen than I’m usually able to spend.

Agreed! Factor is the best! I’ve been subscribed to the 6 meal plan for three months or so and rarely is there a dish I’m not fond of. I wish MSA would do some reviews. I think they did once but I would love to see more.

I was ready to try gobble, but they’re at capacity in my area. Hopefully soon that changes!

Thank you for this run down!

Was notified Sunday night my Marley won’t be coming Tuesday, would have been nice to have known Saturday before the snow/ice storm hit. I understand weather delays but more advanced noticed would have been helpful. I will have to dig deep to come up with dinners this week.

I’ve recently switched from Marley Spoon and Hello Fresh to Purple Carrot. I am so impressed! The quality of ingredients is great. The recipes are simple, but with a few components to make them balanced and interesting. I am always amazed by the large quantity of food when I’m finished cooking, too!

There servings are HIGH in calories

I’ve tried Every Plate, Hello Fresh, Dinnerly, Blue Apron, and Home Chef. Liked best and stuck with Hello Fresh however I’ve noticed decreased quality in produce recently and smaller portions. I got a box that should serve 4 and the Ramen recipe had one small bag of Ramen noodles…have they ever seen a serving of Ramen? Barely fed my 9 year old boys and husband…I didn’t get any! Never used to be this way…portions actually used to be too big at times. Very disappointed lately.

I have noticed that too! I subscribe to blue apron, hello fresh, dinnerly, Martha and spoon, and everyplate, home chef and I noticed since COVID most of the portion sizes shrunk. I even noticed that with the protein. They would like 10oz on the recipe card but actually only send 6-8oz on the package!. I thought I was the only one…

Reply ButtonReply

zo

If that happens you should give them a call and they will give you a credit. It happened to me once with Marley Spoon. They sent an email saying the card said 10 oz. but they only had 8 oz. portions so they were sending 2 meat portions for 16 oz. total. I only received one portion and they credited me $15 back.

Lauren

Same here…was very fond of Dinnerly for most of last year and thankful to find an affordable option to shopping during our pandemic…but the last 2-3 months I have been skipping weeks because I’m no longer satisfied with some of the produce and portion sizes. Has to be because we are all jumping on the band wagon and maybe stressing the system. Understandably, this week’s box was cancelled due to weather.

Laurie

Blue Apron is my favorite but it’s not included 🙁

Lindsey Morse

Hi Laurie! Thanks for chiming in to let us know you love Blue Apron! I used to feature Blue Apron on this weekly roundup post, but I took it off the list last week to give a couple of new boxes some airtime. Glad to know it’s your fave; I’ll keep that in mind for future posts. 🙂

Why is this post re-listed as new but comments from 2-3 months ago?

Hi Svetlana7e! This is a recurring post that’s updated every week to showcase current menus. The content is new every week, but some of the comments are from past postings.

Old content pushed to the top. At least 1 of these has not been reviewed in 2.5 years (June 2018) yet it’s still got the MSA stamp of approval. Seems like another example of the complaints people feel constantly advertised to with your affiliate links. 👎

Factor and Trifecta have been on my radar for a while, but Pete’s Paleo is new to me. I’ll do some research and discuss with the team. (Please feel free to chime in any time with suggestions for boxes you’d like to see reviewed. I’m all ears.) And thanks for voicing your preference to see kits reviewed multiple times; that’s helpful to hear. 🙂

Hi BG, thanks for taking the time to comment. I know it’s time for new reviews of some of these boxes, and we’re on it! (I actually had a Sprinly meal for lunch today. Review coming soon!) I recently rejoined the MSA team to focus on food and beverage boxes, and I’m excited about what’s coming in 2021.

I would love some healthy meal kits and ready made meals reviewed for the new year! I’m interested in Green Chef and Sun Basket as well as Factor, Trifecta and Pete’s Paleo.

I tried Sun Basket a few times last winter and had issues with produce freezing and arriving wilted and unusable. It’s helpful for me to see meal kits reviewed more than once (ideally at least four times) to account for issues like these. I’m hesitant to try Sun Basket again unless I can see evidence of the product arriving in good condition and I also enjoy seeing pictures of how the recipes turn out.

Laura

What is interesting on Home Chef is that the prices I have for these items is different in my account. For example, the first three items above show $9.95 per serving where my price is $8.99. I wonder if it varies based on location? Or a member vs. non-member price?

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey Morse

Oh, wow. Huh. That is interesting, Laura. I’ll reach out to Home Chef this week to see if I can get clarification, and I’ll update based on what they say. Thanks for the head’s up!

My Blue Apron box was delayed for 1 day. I received an email letting me know that if the box did not arrived today they will issue me a credit. My box did not arrive 🙁 This caused a major interruption as I did not do groceries on the weekend, so today I had to order takeout. I live in Miami, curious to know if other people have had the same situation due to weather inclemencies.

Blue Apron has a complete Thanksgiving menu under their Meal Prep it has turkey, sides and dessert. I ordered and Im looking forward to it.

I love to cook and for many years I thought meal prep kits were gimmicky. I tried Blue Apron out of curiosity and fell in love with them. I love their wine sub and they pair it with the food. Recently you can add a box of food and/or wine. for next week I have 2 deliveries the Thanksgiving and Signature. That way I can avoid going to the food market that week.

I think is worth to mention that Blue Apron has 3 options weekly. Signature (2 servings), Signature for 4 (4 servings) and meal
prep. There are different options in every menu. Although some of the Signature and Signature for 4 are the same.

Awww thanks so much, Gloria!! You just put a big old smile on my face. It’s good to be back, and you’ll definitely be seeing more reviews from me! 🙂

Thank you so much for your comment, Gloria, and for sharing your experience with Blue Apron! I appreciate you pointing out the different menu menus available. I’m going to update this post to reflect those options, and I’ll make sure they’re included in future menus too. Really appreciate the feedback!

Hi Lindsey!!! I’ve always been a fan of your reviews. I remember you
use to do the ones for Raw Spice and other one that I dont recall the name. I do remember there was a Tagine!

Hope to see more reviews from
your part.

Jen

My favorite is Gobble! For the easiest and most consistently delicious recipes. I also use Sun Basket and Blue Apron some weeks.

Morgan

I love that you started posting all the menus together. I’ve been wanting to sign up for one, just waiting for a good week.

I wish you could post which meals have an upcharge, like the steak and lobster!

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey Morse

Yay, Morgan, I’m glad that you’re finding these posts helpful! It shouldn’t be an issue to note which meals are more expensive, and I think it’s a great idea to add upchage info. I won’t be able to update in time for tomorrow’s post, but I’ll see about adding it for the next one. Thanks! 🙂

Dinnerly should be added for an awesome value box. You can get 3 meals for 2 a week for $20 less than the others. EveryPlate is the other value box I’ve tried and liked, same pricing as Dinnerly. Marley spoon owns Dinnerly.

Lindsey Morse

Hi, MissJ! It’s great to hear that you’ve had good experiences with Everyplate & Dinnerly. I’ll do some research and see about adding one or both to future menu posts! Thanks for the feedback!
