To start with, I filled out a little survey in my account with the colognes that my husband currently wears and likes, and Scent Trunk chose three samples to send to us. They arrived in a bubble mailer with a box inside. The box had the three samples and cards explaining the colognes.
Scent Trunk also has a points program and you can find out more information about that on their FAQ page! Every purchase earns points that you can redeem for store credit at Scent Trunk.
Dev #2: The Main Act by Olympic Orchids - Value ? (Full Size: $65.00)
Scent Trunk describes this as an Oriental fragrance for both men and women. The top notes are incense and cloves, the middle notes are cinnamon, labdanum, and the base notes are immortelle and agarwood. The longevity is 4 out of 5 and the sillage is 4 out of 5.
I am not a fan of this one at all. It almost immediately gave me a headache, and the scent didn't get better as it sat. Something about it reminds me of old firewood, but not in a good way.
No. 6 Tempt Fate by Body Conjure - Value ? (Full Size: $65.00)
Scent Trunk describes this as "fresh, gorgeous, and layered compounds of fine essential botanicals blended into rich and beautiful creations that have wonderful and sometimes surprising stories to tell for each wearer." The top notes are bergamot and lime, the middle notes are myrrh and oakmoss and the base note is Indonesian patchouli leaf. The longevity is 3 out of 5 and the sillage is 3 out of 5.
I enjoyed this one more than the first. It still smells a bit 'old,' but here it comes through classic and it smooths out into a nice scent after application.
Maxed Out by 4160 Tuesdays - Value ? (Full Size: $280.00)
Scent Trunk describes this as "Inspired by the crazed youthful misadventures of perfumer Sara McCartney's friend Maximilian Heusler. Maxed Out is a boozy, swaggering, delicious, illicit journey through the never ending nightlife of New York City." The top note of this is cumin, the middle notes are rum and coconut, and the base notes are vanilla and cedar. The longevity is 4 out of 5 and the sillage is 3 out of 5.
I think this one is my favorite of the bunch, but I'm not entirely sure I would enjoy smelling it on my husband 24/7. This would have to be an every now and again cologne - it is very distinctive and the scent is heavy. This would be best suited for fall or winter, so that the scent doesn't get too strong.
Verdict: I am going to avoid doing a value judgement on this box, since there are no sizes listed on these three colognes. I've listed the full price of the bottle for reference. I think much of the value for Scent Trunk lies in the curation of the scents. this month was more of a miss for me with all three scents, but I did enjoy the last two somewhat. All three colognes are very strongly scented and definitely make a statement.
Scent Trunk also sends scents that artisan perfumers don't always make available for purchase, which is a bonus as well!
