This month's theme is... Dr. Who! Hooray for Dr. Who! I've been so happy with all of the fandoms this box features. They really run the gamut from TV to literature to anime and beyond!
On the flip side of the Dalek card is all sorts of information about the artists and creators behind this box.
Team Rocket Magnet - Value $2?
Each month, Half Blood Prints makes minimalist artwork for this box's featured theme. This magnet has a quote from Clara set against a silhouette of the character. I like the color scheme a lot—it matches the branding of the show, plus it feels very fall to me—and the magnet has a decent amount of stick to it. Fun!
Fandom of the Month Club packs their accessories in a special screen-printed muslin bag. It's nothing fancy, but it's a cute touch! This quote is a great one from River Song, the Doctor's past... er, future... love. Oy, these Dr. Who timelines!
Dr. Who Watch - Value $8.99?
I love that this watch makes clever use of the 12 Doctors—each one represents an hour on the clock. And hey, for a show about time travel, a watch is a relevant, cheeky pick! I will say that it feels pretty inexpensively made—the straps have that plastic-y faux leather feel, and I wish the image on the face was sharper.
Here's the face (er, faces) up close!
The Doctor's Name in Gallifreyan Necklace - Value $10.24
This necklace is long—the pendant hit below my bra line, and there was no need to use its lobster-claw clasp to put it on (I just draped it right over my head). I like the silver finish, but I expect it'll require a bit of upkeep to prevent it from tarnishing (or more importantly, turning my neck green). Still, I like this lightweight little pendant. It's the kind of thing you could wear with any ordinary outfit, and only insiders will recognize and appreciate it. Otherwise, it can pass as just a neat piece of jewelry.
TARDIS Earrings - Value $10.00?
How cute are these stud earrings? They're barely bigger than my thumbnail, so they're a subtle way to express your love of Doctor Who. I've seen lots of types of TARDIS earrings before, but none with teensy little crystals like these have. I like winks of sparkle. The value is based on a similar Etsy style.
Verdict: I really, really like Fandom of the Month Club! They find really unique items that help you surround yourself with the stories and characters that put a smile on your face (or a furrowed brow, or tears, in the case of the ever-dramatic Dr. Who!). The box is only $13 a month, which is well worth it for this month's $31.00 approximate value. While I do wish some of the items were a bit higher quality, this box definitely provides an experience (with the cute bag and custom design) that makes up for it. And again, it's more than fair for the price!
