The six scents come in tiny rollerballs, packaged in a sleek box. Personally, I prefer rollerball perfume over spray or typical sample vials so I was happy to see this. I also really like the different typeface for the each number.
The information booklet suggests rolling the scent over a small area of skin and letting it sit for 20 minutes without rubbing. This lists out which scent corresponds to each number and lists the url where you can enter your preferences.
This also gives you some information on scent and explains that Scent Trunk gives 1.5% of their sales to the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation!
Once you've registered on the test site, you can immediately start rating the scents! This whole process was really quick and simple.
Each scent has a short description and you can rate each as love, like, or dislike.
One - Citrus
Zingy, fresh, and juicy are good descriptives for this straightforward citrus scent. This smelled really fresh but definitely had some depth to it. I didn't love this because plain citrus scents always remind me a little bit of a citrus scented cleaning product. But I do like smaller notes of citrus mixed in with a different base.
Two - Woods
This is described as woodsy and firey. I typically like a natural forest scent but this was a little odd to me. It definitely smells firey but it was a little too smokey for me. I didn't hate it and I think I would find it interesting on someone else but it wasn't really doing it for me.
Three - Aromatic
Aromatic is a scent profile I definitely lean towards in my standard perfume collection. This was an extremely light scent that did have herbal tones to it. I wouldn't describe it as too warm but there was a scent slightly reminiscent of cotton or laundry that I really liked.
Four - Floral
Floral covers a lot of different scents so it's hard to pin this one down. I actually didn't find this scent to be too sweet at all and it mostly smelled like a fresh scent. If this makes sense at all, it reminded me more of green plants than flowers. Similar to a greenhouse or something along those lines. It isn't a scent I would wear on its own but I am curious to see how it could be incorporated with other scents.
Five - Amber
I love Amber! I kind of expected to because there are a few perfumes I keep on rotation and a lot of them are warm and spicy. The scent smelled really strong and nice in the bottle. It was definitely lighter on my skin but the warm scent lingered nicely.
Six - Chypre
This scent seemed really sharp to me when I first put it on but I like how it faded. This was an odd mix that seemed a little musky to me but also had some sharper notes coming through. This scent smelled more "woodsy" to me than the actual woods scent. It was a little strong but it got more interesting the longer I wore it.
Here are my final verdicts:
Once you complete the survey of scents, you submit it and they start working on your signature scent! This is when you order your first month supply (5ml) for $11.99.
Once you receive your first fragrance you have the option of reordering it or adjusting what you don't like.
Verdict: I can't wait to see what fragrance my test results give me. In the meantime, it's fun to have these mini scents to play around with. I am happy that professionals are creating my fragrance because some of my experimental combinations haven't been great! For $4.95, this test kit was really fun. I loved the packaging and the online portion couldn't have been easier. This kit covered a few scents I really enjoyed and there was only one I disliked. I can't wait to see what fragrance is chosen for me! $11.99 for a monthly signature scent feels like a good deal and I like that you can constantly adjust it until it's perfect.
