This month's theme is "Brutal." Looks like we'll be celebrating the darker, bloodier side of anime in this box!
The info booklet features a visual list of products, plus other fun info, like a selfie contest to enter. As usual, a couple items in the box are Akibento exclusives—I like boxes with some exclusives inside since it makes me feel like I'm getting something unique and hard-to-find.
Akibento Monthly Pin - Value $1.00?
Every Akibento box comes with a little pin to suit the theme. At first, I was "meh" about these pins, but now that I have a whole collection going, I do look forward to seeing what each new month's pin will be.
Exclusive Akibento Clash T-Shirt - Value $20.99?
I couldn't find this exact shirt online, so I linked to another t-shirt style on Akibento's shop. I love the dramatic black, white, and red color scheme.
The shirt has a sweet Akame Ga Kill design on the front. Awesome shirt, and it's super soft, too!
Attack on Titan Eren Plush - Value $17.99
How cute is this plush! Eren is such a serious character in Attack on Titan that it's funny to see him in such a cutesy pose...
I love the detail involved in the plush, from the patches to the straps on his pants.
He even has little jacket pockets!
Berserk Guts Mini Plush - Value $5.00?
As if one plush wasn't enough, there's also this plush keychain of Guts from Berserk!
I couldn't find this exact item online, so I linked to something similar. It's definitely meant to mimic the popular Tsum Tsum style of plushes that Disney makes.
Berserk Playing Cards - Value $7.73
Next up, more Berserk. I'm not a huge card game player, though these blood-red cards are pretty cool. They're definitely the most "brutal" playing cards I've ever seen...
Since I probably won't get a lot of use out of them as cards, I wish they were a little artsier—they're pretty much just stock images of the characters placed on the cards, rather than more creative interpretations of the characters drawn to fit the playing card template or theme. Just some more distinctive art to admire. My first instinct is to gift these cards to someone who really loves the show (and knows what to do with playing cards, haha), but who knows! Maybe these cards will be my excuse to learn a few games!
Ghoulbucks Coffee Sticky Notes - Value $6.99
I love this reference to Tokyo Ghoul because I am a huge Starbucks fan! I don't know if I'd value these at $6.99 since there's not a ton of notes in this stack ($6.99 could get you a ton of regular sticky notes) but they'll totally come in handy. I love how subtle this anime reference is. Someone else at the office might not even notice that the design isn't a Starbucks logo.
High School of the Dead Shot Glass - Value $4.00?
I couldn't find this online, as it's an exclusive, but I linked to something similar to help give an idea of value.
I'm pretty sure the shot glass is plastic, but I don't mind. After all, there's less risk of it breaking that way!
In my opinion, the High School of the Dead designs on the sides are cuter than "brutal", but I'm not complaining. I love the idea of adding this cool, kawaii shot glass to my cupboard!
Verdict: I liked this Akibento box a lot. I'm a big fan of plushes, so getting two in one box was pretty cool. It is a little funny that two of the items in the "Brutal" box were squishy, adorable plush toys, isn't it? Haha! I think the playing cards were the only miss for me, but that's not to say I won't be able to find someone who'll dig them. Based on my estimations, I got about $64.00 of products for $29.99 (the price of the box plus shipping). I'm a happy camper this month!
