I know that Fandom of the Month Club is great about covering a wide array of movies, books, and TV shows, but I never expected that Pirates of the Caribbean would inspire a box! How cool.
Skull and Crossbones Magnet - Value $2?
Every box comes with a magnet. Up until the beginning of this year, the magnets were all done by a specific artist with a minimalist style. More recently, the magnets have deviated from that aesthetic—this business-card-sized pirate flag magnet, for example. There are some spooky yellow tones around the bones, giving them a bit of depth (and extra spookiness). It's not the strongest magnet, but it'll look cool hanging on my fridge.
Small Printed Pouch – Value $10.38?
Each month, the jewelry items come packaged inside a zippered cotton pouch printed with a design inspired by the fandom. Since this is an exclusive design, I couldn't find it online. I linked to something similar, but I think this pouch (which is only about 4" x 5.5") is worth $10.38. It's cute, but the image seems like it's been printed in a way that'd crack or else rub off of the fabric before too long.
Anchor Necklace with Jack Sparrow Quote Charm - Value $13.50?
I couldn't find this item online (it's often really tricky to find the items in this subscription in an online shop), so I linked to something similar to estimate value.
This necklace sits a bit higher on my chest. I like the way the Jack Sparrow quote and compass charms dangle from the sideways anchor. The metal isn't the highest quality (it's silver in color, but definitely doesn't feel like that nice of a metal). Of course, that makes it really lightweight and comfortable to wear. I think it's a cool, unexpected design for a necklace, and the "I regret nothing. Ever," quote is so great!
Treasure Chest Ring - Value $8.00?
Not only is this specific ring impossible to find online, but it's also really hard to find anything quite like it! There are a few Disney Couture rings out there that mirror this treasure chest style, but they're way nicer—it'd be misleading to estimate this item's price based on them. So I took a guess, based on how much I'd expect to pay for this adjustable ring if, say, I saw it at the mall.
The magic of this gold, antique-looking ring is that the lid of the box actually opens. It's secured with a magnet, which, unfortunately, takes up most of the space inside the box, but there are tiny gems hidden inside. (Careful that they don't spill out!)
Skull Medallion Earrings - Value $22.20?
I linked to a similar item here, as well. I like that so many of these pieces are hard to find—it speaks to their uniqueness. These earrings, modeled after Elizabeth's gold medallion, are about the size of a half-dollar but are pretty lightweight and comfortable to wear.
The antiqued finish is cool, though I sort of wish they were a brighter gold like the medallion is in the movie.
Verdict: I've gotta say, Fandom of the Month Club was pretty cute this month. I'm not even the biggest Pirates of the Caribbean fan, and I found myself ooh-ing and ahh-ing over these unique accessories. Are they the highest quality jewelry pieces? Nope. But for just $16.75 (for the $13.00 box + U.S. shipping), I got five fun items that were surprisingly hard to find elsewhere. I estimated that there's around $56.00 of value in the box, based on the similar items I found. While that still feels a little high to me, I think $13.00 is a super fair price. If you love all of the geek and fan subscription boxes out there but don't want to spend a whole lot, then this box is a great pick. It seems like a great gift for geeky teens and college-bound kids, in particular!
