Trunk Club is a clothing styling service for both men and women. Subscribers work closely with their stylist to find a selection of pieces to try on at home, and they receive a trunk shortly thereafter. Trunks can be ordered as often as you like, so you can try it once, or have a trunk sent to you quarterly or monthly. Or even more frequently!

So first, a little more about how Trunk Club works. When I signed up, I took a pretty lengthy style questionnaire online. Then I was matched with a stylist, Kelly, who asked me even more about what I like and what I was looking for via an online chat. Based on this information, she selected ten items for me to try on at home. She then sent me a link to preview all my items! This month, I decided to try everything she selected, except for one piece. She put the same leggings I tried last month on my preview in a different color. I passed on that one.

This packet was also included in my trunk.

This is a note from my stylist, Kelly.  She must have been really busy!  She usually tells me why she picked items out for me every month.

This is my invoice. It lists the items I was sent and the cost to keep each item. My $25 styling fee will be deducted from anything I decide to keep. There is also a reminder to provide feedback on their website or app about how well each item worked for me.

On the back of the invoice are instructions for returning the items I don't want to keep.  I can drop my box back off at any UPS location, or I can schedule a free pickup through the Trunk Club app!

These items were also in the packet.  When I've finished repackaging the items I don't want to keep in the box, I just put this return label on it and use the tape straps to tape it back up!  So convenient!

Oversized Double V-Neck Tee by Sejour - Cost to keep $59

I don't think this tee is a good look for me. It's not the right color, and it's just so boxy.

Here's a look at the back.  It's an interesting detail, but I kind of feel like otherwise I'm wearing a sack.

Rib Knit Tank by Sejour - Cost to keep $35

This tank looks kind of awful in this picture, but it's because the shorts are a bit too tight. If I were wearing better fitting bottoms, I would say this is a really nice fitting tank. It flows really well. I only really hesitate on this one because I already have a ribbed olive tank, but it's not got the same great cut.

Roll Cuff Stretch Denim Shorts by Kut from the Kloth - Cost to keep $79

These shorts are cute, but I think I already have this exact pair. These are too tight for me! Normally I would consider exchanging, but since I already have them, there's no point.

Stardust Jacket by Zella - Cost to keep $95

I really like this jacket! It's a nylon blend with a little stretch, and I absolutely love the cutaway sections. This will be perfect for vacation.

The Verdict: I am normally a big fan of Trunk Club, but this was not my favorite package from them. Nothing really wowed me, although I did get a few nice pieces. I feel like it wasn't as special as usual, and maybe my stylist was distracted or something. Oh well, here's hoping my next trunk is better!

What do you think of Trunk Club? What pieces did you get?

If you’re going to send bland clothing it better have a fit so perfect that you never want to take it off… this was all so lumpy and unflattering. Is it the same stylist every time? And can you change them?

You can now get free alterations at Nordstrom for all clothes you buy from the their trunk club sub.

I agree. I really liked it and thought how perfect until I saw the price

This is exactly why I quit Trunk Club. I loved my first box, but the second one felt like my stylist didn’t care at all– just thrown together with no thought at all. It was super disappointing. But really, the Nordstrom site has free shipping on all orders, so this service isn’t really worth that much to me.

Wow, I agree 100%, Halli! Even if this box hadn’t been the complete dud it is, I don’t see the value in this service since, as you say, Norstrom has free shipping, free returns and, perhaps most importantly for me, an open window on returns.

I’d rather order a whole bunch of clothes that appeal to my tastes from Norstrom, try them on at my convenience, see how they augment/compliment my existing clothes and return anything that doesn’t work. Yes, I get a big charge on my card for a period of time but that’s worth it for me.

Anna, this box doesn’t feel like it was picked for you *at all* and every single item is both boring and overpriced.

Your trunk club shipments are usually among my favorites to look at, but wasn’t really impressed by these. It also feels like bland basics, and usually there are one or two fun interesting items at least. I liked the shorts, but I’m actually looking for a pair of similar shorts so that probably biases that. 😉

Hmm…. Not liking this box. The whole box feels bland and ill fitting.
Considering that very shirt message from your stylist I would feel like no special consideration was taken when selecting these pieces.

I tried to sign up for a box, but they wanted to take a significant dollar amount off my card and hold it until I either paid for the box or fully sent it back. This is the first time I have encountered this with a clothing stylist box! I use a debit card as a credit card and don’t want such a large sum of money being held hostage by someone. Especially when you have people like Just Fab and Le Tote who do not hold deposits. So I will stick with them for now unless I feel like having money disappear from my account for something I haven’t even bought yet (and from someone who advertises a charge of “just” $25).

That’s weird, I was just charged the styling fee and they waited til I returned what I didn’t want before they charged me. I’ve had better luck with trunk club thsnstitch fix and stylogic. Highly recommend and you can chat w the stylist in the app and make changes before your trunk gets shipped to you.

Wow… Looking at these item–with the exception of the jacket, I feel like you could’ve bought similar stuff at Walmart for a lot less!
