This month's theme is "Restart." I've got to admit, I'm not a gamer, so be patient with me as I figure out what all of these items reference!
Here's the inside of the info booklet. There's a product list, too.
Akibento Monthly Pin - Value $1.00?
Every Akibento box comes with a little pin to suit the theme. At first, I was "meh" about these pins, but now that I have a whole collection going, I do look forward to seeing what each new month's pin will be. They're always colorful and feature cute chibi versions of beloved characters.
Exclusive Akibento Restart T-Shirt - Value $20.99
This minimalist design is printed on a sturdy, yet soft tee. I think this is a nod to Re:Zero, which I don't think is a game itself, but whose protagonist Subaru is a die-hard gamer dude. I always like the designs Akibento puts together for its graphic tees. They're often crossovers, featuring two or more characters from different universes or stories. This one, I think, is just a referencing the one show, though. (But please correct me if I'm way off!)
No Game No Life Air Freshener - Value $2.00?
I'm just guessing at the value of these air fresheners based on other ones I've seen in stores. These are the kinds of dangling air fresheners that are made of cardboard. Boy oh boy, are they powerful, too!
The scent is supposed to be strawberry—it's so strong, though! And it kind of has a chemical sweetness to it that's a little much for me.
I like the design though! I'm just not sure I could stand this powerful scent every time I hop into my car!
Exclusive Goddess Fan - Value $14.99
Cute! This is great for summer. I'm not sure who this "goddess" is supposed to be (if anyone can jog my memory, please do)! I kind of wish Akibento listed that information in their info cards, just so I could know (or at least learn) the new characters and shows I should be checking out. I wonder if it's because these are unlicensed designs—maybe they're trying to keep a low profile? I will say that $14.99 seems like an awful lot for a folding paper fan, even if it does have a cool design on it.
Another World Cat Beanie - Value $24.99
So, I don't know much about the game, Another World, so I'm not sure what kitty character this is in reference to. But I do love the idea behind this design! The eyes are really compelling and the ears are just darn cute. The knit fabric is soft and comfy, too. It's a bit tight on my head and definitely too warm to wear this summer, but I might have to hold onto this until fall comes again. (Maybe by then, I'll have caught up on the reference, too!)
RWBY Ruby Vinyl Figurine - Value $12.99
I've come to expect this box to always include a figurine, but so far in my experience, they've all been Funko Pop figurines. This vinyl figure is a little bit truer to the actual appearance and style of the character from the web series.
I love how detailed her outfit is, down to the ruffles on her dress. She's even got her signature weapon on hand!
I hope they start featuring other figurines like this one. It's a nice break from the minimalist style of the Funko Pop figurines.
Exclusive Inflatable Sword - Value $13.99
Okay, now this gave me a giggle. In the season of cutesy inflatable pool toys, what could be more fun and irreverent than bringing a big inflatable anime sword to the party?
I'm like 90% sure that this is a sword from Sword Art Online. How cool! It's about a yard long, which makes it feel pretty official. Could you imagine toting this along to the local pool this summer? It won't help you float, but it would make you seem super cool.
Verdict: I liked this Akibento box, though I'm bummed I wasn't familiar with most of the references. I do think some of the exclusive items seemed a little overpriced for what they are ($14.00 for an inflatable sword? $15.00 for a fan?). Still, if you're a true anime devotee, these items are definitely unique, fun finds that would make awesome additions to your collection of merch. Going by the prices I found, I got about $91.00 of products for $29.99 (the price of the box plus shipping).
