Enclosed with the selections my stylist, Stefania, chose for me was a crisp envelope. The envelope included a sweet note from my stylist with suggestions for styling, an invoice for everything in the box, alterations info, a shipping label, and tape to use to reseal my box for returned items. I found this all incredibly useful.
If you read my first review of Trunk Club, the appearance of my introductory box was very different from my second. It was a bit more generic and like any shipped online order, but this time around I feel like I got the full Trunk Club experience! The box is designed to look like a suitcase or designer trunk complete with a handle to use to carry the package. I love the very personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice. It was far easier to return with the shipping label sticker this time. This box just felt far more inviting than last month!
Prior to receiving my trunk, my stylist, Stefania, and I chatted about what I wanted for my next trunk. I asked for a bit more colors and bold statement pieces. She then sent me a confirmation of her choice pieces for me via the chat on the Trunk Club app. I had 48 hours to approve the collection and could remove any pieces I disliked. I only removed one dress she initially picked for me. I always try to be open minded to styles so that I can expand my style profile, plus I always like to see what Stefania selects for me!
‘Dark Romance’ Lace Detail Dress City by City Chic, Size LW/20 - Cost to keep $119
I don’t normally gravitate towards the color purple, but this rich eggplant dress is truly irresistible. The dress is 100% polyester; the material had enough stretch for me to get it on at a size smaller than I generally wear. It was a tad tight, but I love the silhouette of this dress. The lace details on the bodice and cap sleeves in addition to the lightness of the dress’s flowy material really add to the romantic vibe of the dress. It is an elegantly sweet number that would be perfect for any formal occasion.
Strap Knit Dress in Black by Sejour, Size 3x - Cost to Keep $99
Most dresses I wear are ones that go slightly above the knee or at their longest the middle of my calves; so this dress was a bit of a departure for me. I’ve never felt that maxi dresses suited me, but this dress is an exception. This dress is made of a soft cotton material and feels like the longest and comfiest t-shirt you stole off your boyfriend to sleep in. This could be a standard black and white dress if it wasn’t for the pattern of the white lines. I was really surprised by how much I loved this piece; I didn’t want to take it off! I paired it with my standard “Shake Appeal” necklace from Holy Mountain, black jellies, and new silver bracelet from Jewelry Subscription box (review coming soon!) for an effortless yet fashionable look. This is the quintessential summer dress for all your beach party and music festival looks. Also… did I mention it has pockets?!
Medium Julian Backpack Distress by Rebecca Minkoff—Cost to Keep $245
When my stylist sent me inspiration pictures, I saw this bag in one of them and immediately told her how much I loved it. It is even more gorgeous in person. This leather bag is incredibly well made and has a distressed, oil slick look to it that I adore. The silver accents are a great detail that also pair well with the bag. I also really love how this bag is chic, yet so tough all at the same time. To me it is the equivalent of wearing a lace baby doll dress with a leather jacket and combat boots. It would spruce up any basic t shirt and jeans outfit effortlessly.
Crochet Cold Shoulder Top in Khaki by City Chic, Size XXLW - Cost to Keep $69
I could tell by what my stylist sent me prior to me receiving the box that she was really fond of this City Chic top; but sadly, this was one of my least favorite pieces. The light crochet knit felt terribly bulky on my frame and I felt as though I had my grandmother’s doilies hanging off of my shoulders. It was difficult to get each side tied properly and evenly at instances as well. I will say this though: I did like the color of the top. I often am attracted to pieces in this khaki/ olive green color. Sorry, Stefania, this one ultimately was not my cup of tea.
Destroyed Denim Skirt by City Chic, Size 22 - Cost to keep $59
I am not terribly keen on ripped and distressed items, so this is not a skirt I would have picked for myself. The fit was a bit tight, but the denim skirt did have a nice amount of stretch to it. I felt that the slit in the front was awkward for where the skirt hit me as well. I like the skirt more seeing it in pictures on myself, but it remains to be one of my least favorite items in the box this month.
Sheer Plaid Henley Tunic by Vince Camuto, Size 3x - Cost to Keep $109
This top was my favorite out of my stylist’s choices for me! I was surprised I loved this shirt so much because I generally go for tops that I can tuck into higher waist pants and skirts. The shirt is a 100% polyester, but it feels like a lighter cotton/gauze material. I love the sheerness of the material, the mandarin collar, and the sleeveless cut. I was concerned that the top may not go over my hips and posterior without the fabric being stretched awkwardly, but it fit like a dream! I paired it with the black jeans that my stylist hand-picked for me, my chartreuse cat eye glasses, and matching jellies. Go figure that I had a pair that was that identical neon lemon hue; call it kismet!
Black Ab Solution Stretch Skinny by Wit and Wisdom, Size 24 - Cost to Keep $78
I have had Wit and Wisdom in various clothing subscription boxes and I am always impressed by the quality of this brand. I love skinny leg jeans, but black and dark indigo skinny leg jeans are my absolute favorite. They are such a timeless staple piece for any wardrobe The light denim fabric has enough stretch to hug your body in all the right places without it losing its shape. I could easily wear these to work with a dress shirt or with a band shirt for a casual outing. I love the classic look of these jeans, but their versatility is what makes them such a fantastic value.
Light Blue Print Fit and Flare Dress by Adrianna Papell, Size 2x - Cost to Keep $97.99
I feel like I should be going to a Luau or at the very least a great big cookout in this dress. It just screams “summer party” to me! This dress is made from 95% polyester and 5% spandex; I definitely needed that stretch when I was trying it on. The cross strapped back is adorable, but it took me several minutes to figure out how to get this dress on. I feel like a 3x may have been a better option for me, but I miraculously managed to get myself in this dress nonetheless. As precious as this dress is, I couldn’t justify purchasing it even at its discount price of $97.99 at this time.
Verdict: This box was a vast improvement in every way from my first Trunk Club box! I was really pleased to receive this trunk in the customary luxury packaging that Trunk Club is known for, but more importantly, I really liked the selections made for me this month! I feel that through the communications I had with my stylist, she really applied some of my suggestions. I was happy to get such a vivid color palette of clothes to try on; they felt like they fit my style and personality far more. I probably sound like a broken record, but I always stress the importance of communicating with your stylist; your following boxes will only improve with the feedback you provide. I am eager to see what I get from Stefania next month and in the months to come.
