Trunk Club Plus Clothing September 2018 Review

trunk club september 2018 booklet

So first, a little more about how Trunk Club works. When I signed up, I took a pretty lengthy style questionnaire online. Then I was matched with a stylist who asked me even more about what I like and what I was looking for via an online chat. Based on this information, she selected several items for me to try on at home. She then sent me a link to preview all my items! There is also an option to allow your stylist to send a few surprise pieces.

This packet was included in my trunk.

The front of the enclosed booklet now has instructions!

Inside is a note from my stylist, Sydney. It explains why she chose this month's pieces for me and gives a bit of styling advice. I like how accessible my stylist is.

trunk club september 2018 booklet 4

This is my invoice. It lists the items I was sent and the cost to keep each item. My $25 styling fee will be deducted from anything I decide to keep.

trunk club september 2018 booklet 5

These items were also in the packet. When I've finished repackaging the items I don't want to keep in the box, I just put this return label on it and use the tape straps to tape it back up! So convenient!

trunk club september 2018 lucky

Floral Border Blouse by Lucky Brand - Retail Value $59.50 (found on sale here for $35.70)

It's my lucky day! I have finally forced myself to start looking at fall/winter clothing, despite the fact that it is still 90 degrees here on the regular. This is the first fall blouse that I know I am definitely keeping! I love pretty much everything from Lucky Brand, and this blouse is a good example of why. Their tops always have a flattering cut, and almost always have a funky print like this one. It's a cotton modal blend, so the fabric is soft and easy, too. Plus I really like the tassel-tie neck and bell cuffs!

trunk club september 2018 pants

Ab-Solution Ankle Slimmer Jeans by Wit & Wisdom - Retail Value $78

These jeans are really cute, and I love the color! They are just a bit snug, though. I am hoping that their solution to abs is not to simply make the pants tighter! These have a low cotton content (blended primarily with polyester), so they don't really feel like jeans at all, they feel like pants. I think I would like to try these in a bigger size maybe? But then I don't think the ab solution would be doing anything, so I'm not sure.

trunk club september 2018 scarf 2 trunk club september 2018 scarf

Cashmere & Silk Wrap by Nordstrom - Retail Value $99

I absolutely love the color of this scarf/wrap! It is so perfect for fall! The scarf itself is super soft, as you can imagine a cashmere/silk blend would be. It feels super luxe, I love it! I just don't know if I can justify spending $99 on a scarf when it's 90 degrees outside. Honestly, it is almost never cold enough to warrant a scarf here in Georgia. Still...

trunk club september 2018 black

Ruched Detail Knit Top by Halogen - Retail Value $49

When I saw this top in my preview, I knew it was a gamble. Unfortunately, it did not pay off. I just can't do any sort of ruching around the torso, therein lies the majority of my problem areas. This would look great on someone with a smoother silhouette.

trunk club september 2018 jumper

Surplice Ruched Sleeve Wide Leg Jumpsuit by Eliza J - Retail Value $158

This jumpsuit is just gorgeous! I just can't wear jumpsuits in general. I have a long torso, as seen here. This is 100% polyester with lovely details. It has ruching on the sleeves, a surplice bodice, and a tie at the waist. I also really like the wide legs.

trunk club september 2018 tee

Rib Knit Tee by BP - Retail Value $25

I really like the color of this tee, it is perfect for fall! I don't like this style of tee, though, the thin, ribbed kind that clings to everything and exposes too much. Thus, I cropped out my lower abdomen! This has to go back, and it's too bad because it's a great price!

trunk club september 2018 jeans

Diana Skinny Jeans by KUT from the Kloth - Retail Value $98

I love jeans from KUT from the Kloth, and these are awesome! I love the wash and the cut! They are a bit snug, though, so I think I might size up on these.

trunk club september 2018 dress

Zebra Twigs Sheath Dress by Lauren Ralph Lauren - Retail Value $119 (found on sale here for $71.40)

I love this dress! It's super flattering and really high quality. It's a polyester/elastane blend and has just the right amount of stretch. I was going to say that the cost is actually not bad at $119 for a designer dress that looks great, but then I saw it is on sale! Trunk Club honors sale prices from Nordstrom. So I think I definitely have to keep it!

The Verdict: I am a big fan of Trunk Club! This month was a mixture of hits and misses, which is typically true, but there were some really good pieces in the hits pile! I really love the dress and the Lucky top. I think Trunk Club is a little on the spendy side, but it's still loads of fun to try all of the pieces!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual's preferences as well as what's available. Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the 8 items inside is $685.50. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep anything, the $25 cost of the box would also be applied to the purchase. That is an average $85.69 an item, which is on par with the brands included.

That jumpsuit is calling your name! I wasn’t surprised to see so many other people agreed with exactly what I thought. It looks super chic yet effortless and flattering, imo! Pair with some wedges and you’re set!

I have a very similar jumpsuit from Lane Bryant, which I got on clearance at the end of the summer. I adore it! And it’s just gotten cool enough to wear it in DC. Try pressing it, getting the shipping wrinkles out may give you a bit more torso space! I’m very long waisted as well (long everythinged, I’m 5’10” and wear around a 24) so I feel your jumpsuit pain!

Love the purple jeans on you, but yeah you can absolutely find a nice color like that in a less expensive (with a less cringey name) brand! Avenue, amazingly, has really stepped up their denim. I have fabulous hunter green and brown jeans from them.

I agree wholeheartedly with the other comments. I think that jumpsuit is OUTSTANDING on you! It’s very flattering, fits incredibly well (I think it’s slimming too) and it’s SO versatile! You can wear it pretty much any time of year, and you can style it super casually or really dress it up with some of the pretty jewelry we’ve seen you get from other boxes. I know it’s on the expensive side for sure but I think you could definitely get so much use out of it. I always assumed jumpsuits would look awful on me (I’m 5’3”, VERY chesty and on the curvy/plus side but mainly on top), but one day ordered one on sale on a whim that actually had a good, flattering fit and became hooked! It’s often a challenge to fit my difficult body shape but when I do I grab it. I find them to be so easy and comfortable. Makes choosing an outfit less time consuming too! 😄

Anna, you look fantastic in the first blouse, jumpsuit and zebra dress! I get the jumpsuit though. For me, they are too much of a hassle for bathroom trips.

Thanks Diane! Yes, there’s actually a hilarious article in The Onion about jumpsuits and public restrooms… it’s a challenge for sure…

I love that zebra dress on you! Beautiful! I really like the jumpsuit on you too but at the price and if you don’t do jumpsuits I can see why you wouldn’t keep it.

Also, as someone currently freezing right now I have to note while that blue scarf is technically a scarf it isn’t something I would actually choose when it is cold outside. I see it as a 4 season accessory. Going now to defrost my toes…
