Our Review
My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.
They include a pamphlet that provides product information, how to get the most from your trunk, and free shipping label and tape strips.
Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.
Gathered Back Print Shirt by BP, Size 2x—Retail Value $49 (currently on sale for $19.60)
I was immediately excited upon seeing this top included for October’s selections. Leopard print is by far my favorite pattern. Essentially everything I own is in leopard print. I have stood by one fashion rule since my teens: leopard print is a neutral! That is what makes this piece so versatile! I have so many ideas on styling for this top! I could style it with a red skinny leg pant and flats or pattern clash and pair it with plaid cigarette pants and saddle shoes. My number one go to, though, is pairing this top with a black, faux leather mini skirt, biker jacket, and cowboy boots! I feel like Nanny Fine meets Ann Margret in this ensemble! I opted to show the blouse tucked in, tied at the waist, and with it out and over the skirt to show the adaptability of this top. In addition, the fabric is light and has a slight amount of stretch---it fits incredibly well. I am finding so many divine pieces from this BP brand that Stefania has been sending me - I’m loving it! The price is reasonable too, so I opted to keep this top especially since the $25 styling fee will be applied to the balance!
Party Faux Leather Miniskirt by City Chic, Size XLW (22W)—Retail Value $75
You truly can’t go wrong with a faux leather mini-skirt! It could be due to growing up in the 80s that I have lived a lifetime of pining after both Peg and Kelly Bundy’s fashions; they instilled in me a love of animal print, short mini-skirts, tight pants, and faux leather everything! This City Chic skirt is just as versatile as the BP Leopard blouse! I can envision wearing this hot number to a show with a vintage band shirt, patterned fishnet tights, and open toe platform heels or to the office with a thick sweater, black tights, and booties. The skirt fits like a dream and has ample stretch!
Ribbed Funnel Neck Sweater in Yellow by BP, Size 2x—Retail Value $49 (currently on sale for $29.40)
I am a November baby, so I inherently love warm fall colors like red, yellow, and orange—this sweater was a must! The knit fabric is soft, but with ample stretch! I debated not purchasing this sweater since I have another yellow sweater, but I am perpetually freezing these days and loved the turtleneck detail on this one. This piece looks gorgeous against the faux black leather skirt, but will also pair well with a pencil skirt or trousers at the office or jeans on casual Friday! You can call me mellow yellow in this sweater because I just want to get cozy and comfortable during this chilly season!
Black Faux Shearling Hooded Vest by Trouvé, One Size Fits All—Retail Value $69
Teddy Bear coats are back with a vengeance, so I was not surprised to see this vest included. This piece is super soft and cuddly, but it was a wee bit small on me due to it being a one size fits all. I usually prefer jackets snug, but I could have used a smidge more roominess. That being said, this vest was comfortable and incredibly soft to the touch. I layered it with the gold turtleneck sweater and faux leather skirt for a fabulously warm black and yellow look! This will pair fantastically with skinny leg jeans and knee-high riding style boots for an even cozier winter ensemble!
Tweed Crop Jacket by Leith, Size 2x—Retail Value $79 (currently on sale for $47.40)
This jacket and its matching skirt, also included in this month’s selections, are classic Chanel inspired pieces. The beauty of both pieces is their versatility. This jacket could easily be worn with jeans, metallic pointy booties, and a vintage band shirt for a casual, yet glamorous look. The fabric of this piece has limited stretch, but the cut provides a great fit that isn’t too snug nor too boxy. This is a keeper that will never go out of style!
Tweed Miniskirt by Leith, Size 3x—Retail Value $65 (currently on sale for $38.98)
Plaid skirts are such classic staple pieces and being a 90s teen, I feel like I am inherently akin to plaid! I blame it on Alicia Silverstone’s ensembles in Clueless and Aerosmith’s “Crazy” music video. I opted to style the skirt two separate ways: with yellow BP sweater and a steel blue velvet tank top from J.Crew. The more I look at this picture, either of these outfits could have been worn by Liv Tyler or Alicia Silverstone in the ‘Crazy” video! Funny to revisit such a 90s teen dream look in my thirties, but never too late, right? Either of these outfits can be made more appropriate for winter with tights, jackets, and cardigans.
Velvet Tank in Gentle Sea by J.Crew, Size 20W—Retail Value $69.50 (currently on sale for $36.14)
My September Trunk Club included a beautiful golden velvet tank by J.Crew. I erroneously sent the gorgeous piece back. I was regretful immediately and messaged my stylist, Stefania, to see if Nordstrom magically might have stock in my size. Unfortunately, they did not, but Stefania sent me this blue version of the same top. I typically prefer warmer shades, so this cool, serene blue was pretty, but not necessarily my cup of tea. The top has limited stretch with a liner but fits rather well. This piece is versatile and is perfect for layering underneath blazers and cardigans this time of year!
Millie Ruffle Plaid Peplum Top by Sanctuary, Size 2x—Retail Value $89
Red plaid makes me think of gingerbread, peppermint, hot cocoa--- you know, lots of holiday goodies. This top is perfect for the upcoming holidays! The top has stretch, especially with the elastic waist at the peplum detail. The style has a retro 80s vibe with the broad shoulders but has modern day ruffles to bring it back to the 2010s. The fantastic thing about this blouse is that it looks fierce with a faux leather mini, but also will look divine with jeans and flats for a chill fireside ensemble.
Jacquard A-Line Dress by Michel Studio, Size 3x—Listed Retail Value $79
I tried to find this dress on the Nordstrom site for you guys, but couldn’t to no avail! The dress sent to me was in a 3x and was a tad oversized on me; kind of fit me like a babydoll dress. I can only speculate that this was one of the few remaining dresses since I can’t find it on the site. The dress is incredibly easy to wear. The fabric is a soft, stretchy, cotton material. I paired this with my go-to western booties and faux leather biker jacket, but this classic plaid dress could be worn with a zip-up hoodie and sneakers or with tights, booties, and a shawl for a casual, yet classic look.
Berlin Buckle Unit Boots by Top Shop Size 9.5—Retail Value $60
I love a good bootie, so I can see why Stefania included these adorable buckle boots. I was excited to try them because I love the Top Shop brand, but sadly, I couldn’t get these boots on! I am generally a 9.5 or 10 in shoes. I couldn’t get my feet in these for the life of me. My feet were too wide to get into the bootie entirely. If you have wide feet, these booties might not work for you either! I want to prevent you from the disappointment I felt trying to shove my Barney Rubble feet into these with the same fervor and ambition as Cinderella’s stepsisters.
Verdict: The last few months of Trunk Club boxes have been spot on! I truly feel as though my stylist, Stefania, understands my personal style more than ever! It has been difficult the last few months to not keep everything she has sent. The two pieces I absolutely could not resist were by the BP brand: the leopard button-down blouse and golden turtleneck sweater. I have already worn the leopard print top a few times and got loads of compliments! I rarely get to head over to Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack, so I love the convenience of getting a huge box of pieces picked just for me each month! I don’t have to leave my house and search through racks and racks of clothing. What also makes Trunk Club a stand apart service is that you can directly contact your stylist through chat! It is such a handy option and allows me to send links and photos directly to my stylist whenever I want! I am so eager to get next month’s irresistible selections!
