Our Review
This month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.
They include a pamphlet that provides product information, how to get the most from your trunk, and free shipping label and tape strips.
Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.
Stripe Rib Sweater Dress by BP Size 2x—Retail Value $59 (found here for $35.40)
Let me just say this: BP is becoming one of my favorite brands that Nordstrom carries. Not only are their pieces great in terms of style and quality, but their price points are some of the most reasonable that Nordstrom offers! The dress isn’t a bulky knit, but still offers ample stretch and warmth! This piece made me think of Amber from Clueless immediately, so I styled this piece accordingly with a beret from Hester Sunshine, silver booties, and some Elton John rhinestone sunglasses. For a more understated, yet fierce look pair this dress with black tights, ankle booties, and a faux leather jacket. I kept this dress and plan on making it a wintertime staple in my wardrobe!
Fur-fect Faux Fur Jacket by Leith Size 2x—Retail Value $89
My stylist, Stefania, also is aware of my love of a good faux fur coat and included this gorgeous lavender jacket! The coat is so soft and plush: I felt like an adorable stuffed animal hybrid in this piece. Did I mention how cozy it is? The site only has straight sizes in this lavender shade, but has a dusty pink in plus sizes if you are interested in getting it for yourself! This jacket completed my previously mentioned Amber Mariens look, but also looked precious paired with a plaid BP sweater Stefania sent my way! This is a perfect coat for the winter holiday season to pair with fantastic sequin and velvet ensembles, but it will also take you into the new year for your casual looks too!
Plaid Sweater by BP Size 2x—Retail Value $49 (found here for $29.40)
I requested that my stylist send me more sweaters and she certainly delivered. This is another BP piece and it is incredibly cozy! The material feels soft like an angora sweater but is actually an acrylic/nylon blend. This sweater reminds me of one I had as a kid in the 80s that my mom would dress me in with pink corduroy pants. I kind of wish I had another pink pair to style these with, but alas I opted to pair this toasty, retro sweater with a black mini, silver pointy toe flats, and pink and silver glitter cat eye glasses to tie in all the pieces. A sweater like this will look great with skirts, dress pants, or jeans—it is incredibly versatile!
Stripe Boucle Sweater by BP Size 2x—Retail Value $49 (found here for $29.40)
When I see Boucle sweaters, I think of my mom. In the 80s, she had a sea of pastel ones. She still wears them from time to time, especially her sleeveless ones! This particular striped version has an interesting color palette of jewel and cool tones that look fantastic together. I like the sweater’s slight over-sized, roomy cut as well. I paired this piece with dark denim jeans and my fave western style boots, but I could see this going great with a light denim jacket, pencil skirt, and white sneakers for those wild, warm winter days we are blessed with on occasion.
Fuzzy V-Neck Sweater in Olive Amber by Halogen Size 2x—Retail Value $49
This golden, warm-toned olive shade of this sweater is perfect for fall! What you can’t see is the metallic threading of this piece. There is a gold-like fiber threaded into the sweater. I tried to get a close-up picture, but I couldn’t get a proper one. This sweater is extremely soft and has ample stretch. I love the V-neck too! I styled this cozy top with jeans, but I can easily imagine this being paired with a plaid mini skirt and tights. Also, combine this with something purple or a raspberry shade for a brilliant pop of complimentary colors!
Top in Abstract Floral Print by Lost Ink Size 2x—Retail Value $58
My stylist, Stefania, sent me this retro-inspired top by Lost Ink. This blouse has a watercolor-inspired floral print in navy and hot pink against a powdery greyish blue shade. The top also features ruffles below the shoulders and an open back that has a tie in place. The top offers minimal stretch but is meant to be worn loosely. This wasn’t my favorite piece included in the box, mainly due to the color palette and the ruffle detail. That being said, I can still imagine this looking fierce in an office setting tucked into a black knee length pencil skirt and paired with hot pink heels to bring out the pops of the color in this top.
Veda Sequin Sweater Tank by RACHEL by Rachel Roy Size 2x—Listed Value $99
I, unfortunately, couldn’t find this sweater on the Nordstrom site, my fellow bodacious babes! It is a shame because this glitzy sweater is rather fetching! The metallic threading is gorgeous and I love the bold jewel tones that are accentuated well by the gold and black striping. The sweater has a nice stretch and wonderfully fits the body. The only thing I disliked was the slit sleeve detail on this piece; I would be tempted to sew the slit detail shut. I styled this number with a black mini skirt and gold booties to bring out the glitz from the sweater. This top is a perfect holiday piece that offers both comfort and glamour! Opt to wear it in January to ease those post-holiday blues as well!
Felicity Lace Trim Denim Shirtdress by Standard & Practices Size 2x—Retail Value $88
This classic denim shirtdress has gorgeous lace details at the sleeves and yolk. I love the contrast of the utilitarian meets flirty this piece offers. The great thing about a piece like this too is it light enough that it can be worn all year. Wear on a cooler summer day with the sleeves rolled up and black flats or in the winter with thick black leggings, booties, and a black faux fur coat for added sass!
Jacquard Leopard Cardigan by Michel Studio Size 2x—Retail Value $88 (found here for $53.40)
Stefania realizes my love for leopard print everything is strong and threw in this awesome cardigan from Michel Studio! The knit is a bit thick but so soft. I styled this piece with the shirtdress included in this month’s Trunk Club, but I can envision this cardigan looking great with black skinny leg jeans and a black crop top for a killer weekend look during the winter months.
Bambi Cap Toe Bootie by Topshop Size 9.5— Listed Value $65
For last month’s Trunk Club review, I was sent a pair of Topshop brand booties. I could not get them on my Barney Rubble feet. This month, another pair by the brand was sent to me. One boot fit and the zipper on my left foot could not zip all the way. Such a bummer that my colossal left foot had to foil this…again! My stylist and I have decided to forgo attempting any further Topshop brand shoes in the future. If you don’t have a high instep or wide feet/ankles like me, you might be more fortunate with a pair! This particular pair was not on the site, but there are plenty of other pairs on there to test your luck with, my fellow bodacious babes!
The Verdict: I am a big fan of Trunk Club! This month was a true sweater bonanza! Stefania sent me such an amazing variety of thoughtful selections, but my favorite of all was the BP sweater dress! I know I will get a ton of wear from it, especially on those days I am running late to work and need an easy yet cozy ensemble. I wish I had kept the Leith coat as well. Even though I didn’t keep the Leith coat, I am excited to try out other items from the brand! I love that my Trunk Club stylist has introduced me to so many brands without having to leave my house to scurry to the mall—especially during the holiday season! What a convenient service!
