Snack Crate “Brazil” Review
This box always greets you with a colorful booklet and talks you through every snack to be found in the subscription (at all levels)! This month’s theme is Brazil, so I’m really hoping to try some stuff I haven’t had before!
There’s also an awesome bonus in each box: stickers! The stickers are always a hoot, and this month, I love the one of dancing meats on a skewer.
Ruffles Churrasco
I’m picky about my chip textures, and aside from kettle-cooked, ruffles are my favorite! These chips were so unique; they’re meant to be Brazilian barbecue-flavored, and it totally translates! To me it was very umami-forward; lots of smoky notes, and almost a hint of mushroom flavor. It was like the best experience of going to a Churrascaria, you know, just without the meat sweats.
Torcida Jr. Queijo
I had no idea what to expect when I read “cheesy fried bread squares” in the booklet, but these are actually kind of amazing! They’re super-crispy and have almost a romano cheese flavor. Their pleasingly tiny size means they’re a great movie snack to munch on while I try to see all the Oscar contenders this month!
Pacoquita
This treat might be my favorite of the entire box! Very sweet and a little crumbly in texture, it reminds me a lot of homemade fudge. I liked that there was more than one of these in the box; it was nice and rich, and I ended up cutting these in half to better enjoy them. I’m a huge peanut butter nut (nope, not sorry about that pun), so these were a fantastic pick for me.
Bala 7 Belo Framboesa
These chews are super cute, but they definitely weren’t my favorite in the box! I don’t know if they were just too cold (my house is a little on the chillier side), but these were hard as a rock! They were very flavorful, but they didn’t strike me as pure raspberry, as they’re intended to be - I got more of a mixed berry vibe. Honestly, they didn’t taste bad at all, but the texture really put me off.
Fini Churros
This item took me on a roller coaster, dear readers. At first, I was beyond pumped, because I love churros - cinnamon and caramel are two of my most-beloved flavors. Then I saw that it was a gummy candy, and that scared me. I usually don’t see a ton of pastry-flavored gummies! Then, I tried it, and I have to say, I was pretty pleasantly surprised. It’s really sweet; I don’t think I could eat even half of this in one sitting, but truth be told, the caramel flavor shines through and actually makes for a nice candy.
Banana Com Chocolate
These little treats are so fascinating - they’re a real aged banana that’s been dipped in chocolate! I’m sure “aged banana” doesn’t really inspire thoughts of deliciousness to most people, but this was my second-favorite sweet for sure! The chocolate was dark, flavorful, and not too rich, and the banana inside was definitely the genuine article, with a nice bright flavor that comes from bananas that are just the right amount of ripeness!
Verdict: Surprises abounded in this month’s box! I wasn’t familiar with any Brazilian snacks prior to receiving this box, but I really got a nice tour of the flavors and treats that are common to the country. Who knew I would fall in love with an aged banana? I loved the chips and cheese squares as well as the peanut treats, and I really enjoyed trying the more unique treats I received! I guess I better make sure to have some veggies this week, to balance out all my snackin’!
