Trunk Club Women's Plus Clothing Review
My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.
They include a pamphlet that provides product information, how to get the most from your trunk, and free shipping label and tape strips.
Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.
Red Mock Neck Bodysuit by BP, Size 3x — Listed Retail Value $35
I have a love/hate relationship with bodysuits. I love how you get a flawless, tucked in look I love, without having to worry about bunched or balled up fabric. The one thing I do dislike is the snaps at the crotch. Oh my goodness, on a good day I can effortlessly wear a bodysuit. Then there are the days that I am a giggling, hot mess trying to not rip myself out of my glamorous, adult onesie. That all being said, once I saw this red mock turtleneck bodysuit—it was tossed in my keep pile quicker than I could say, “Please, help me out of this contraption!” to my boyfriend. I easily styled this with the dress pants and skirt that my stylist, Stefania, selected for me. This bodysuit will look amazing with everything from your favorite faux leather mini for a night on the town or jeans and booties for a casual friends’ date.
Side Stripe Glen Plaid Pants by BP, Size 3x — Listed Retail Value $59
Have I mentioned how much I love the BP brand that Trunk Club offers? Their line is youthful with a creative flair. It could be that I am so used to the matronly and drab pieces that the fashion industry has tried to pass off to us bodacious babes, but I love BP’s pieces. I also love their reasonable price points. The plaid pants have a red accent stripe down the side. The knit, cotton, fabric has ample stretch and is incredibly easy to wear. I love the perfectly coordinated red mock turtleneck with these pants, but I also love the idea of styling them with a polka dot blouse and a sweater vest to mix patterns and textures.
Corduroy Utility Skirt by BP, Size 3x — Listed Retail Value $55
This skirt takes me back to my high school days. Picture this, 1998: I get home from school, skip over to my mailbox and spy a Delia’s catalog, and immediately run into the house to peruse it while watching the Ricki Lake Show! I would dog ear so many pages and draw stars next to the pieces I wanted most! I can still envision eyeing up all the flared pants, retro 90s does 70s style button downs, and bottle cap belts with seat belt buckle fasteners to this day! This skirt, with its utility -strap in the back and zipper o’ ring in the front, is reminiscent of a Delia’s skirt I used to pine for! The skirt is roomy but fits immensely well. I paired it with the red mock turtleneck and my matching shoes along with a necklace from CHC Vintage. The dream of the 90s is alive in this skirt, and I, for one, am not complaining!
Embroidered Sleeve Cotton Sweater by Lucky Brand, Size 2x — Listed Retail Value $82.57
Lucky Brand pieces are known for their rugged, woodsy aesthetic. I love the whimsical embroidered flowers down the sleeves of this lovely black knit sweater. This piece is incredibly well made. This cozy sweater looks great with the black BP utility skirt and my yellow clogs, but this certainly would look amazing with jeans or red skinny leg pants for a fantastic business casual ensemble.
Cardiff Stripe Crewneck Sweater by Madewell, Size 2x — Listed Retail Value $70.40
I was excited to see a Madewell piece featured in this month’s box from Stefania. One of my favorite bloggers/influencers, Rosey Beeme, is a huge fan of Madewell so I wanted to give the brand a try myself! This wonderfully soft knit sweater has a rich and ideal color palette. I love the deep burgundy against the chile red and baby pink. The piece is made rather well too. However, I do not like the cut of the long, bell-like sleeves. I know this design detail was done on purpose, but it looks like a factory error to me, sorry not sorry! I paired the sweater with the BP skirt and my burgundy/red cowboy boots to bring out the colors in it as well.
Belted Sweater Dress by Leith, Size 3x — Listed Retail Value $69
I was not expecting to love this dress as I did. Initially, I assumed it was a tunic sweater and was slightly put off. Then, I put it on and I was wowed by how simple, yet sexy this piece is, in fact. I also was shocked that I loved this pastel pink/lavender shade—what gives? I would have never considered trying this on if I had seen it at Nordstrom’s, but that is the magic of boxes like Trunk Club, right? This sweater dress is comfortable, yet daring with the open back detail. I also love the coordinating sweater belt! Pair this with rhinestone encrusted heels and hoop earrings for a date night or pair this with tights, a black trench coat, and booties for a slick, chic look at the office. I loved this dress and regret not keeping it, especially since I can no longer find it on the Nordstrom site! This is the one that got away from me for this month’s selections.
Everyday Stripe Sweater by BP Size 2x—Retail Value $49 (on sale for $29.40)
Stefania knows of my love of the BP brand and included another sweater of theirs for me. This one has an unlikely color combo of a deep hunter green against a pale pink. I love the cut and how roomy it is; I could easily just toss this on and hang at my house all day. I styled the sweater with the black corduroy BP skirt and my black western booties for an easy to wear ensemble for the office or post-work errands.
Blue Velvet Camisole by Halogen, Size 2x — Listed Retail Value $39
As soon as I spied this in my selections, I started singing Bobby Vinton’s “Blue Velvet.” How could I not? This shade of blue pops and is absolutely stunning. The tank’s fabric has ample stretch and is long in length. I opted to style the piece alone with the BP plaid skirt that matches it perfectly, but also wore it layered with the red mock turtleneck for an uber-coordinated ensemble.
Studded Jacket by Sanctuary Size 2x—Retail Value $169, Found here for $64.97
Stefainia is aware of my fondness for studs and sequins, so I was not surprised to find this denim jacket in my Trunk Club. The studs add depth to an otherwise plain basic piece. However, I find the cut a bit long and bulky on my frame, so I decided against keeping this jacket. Even though it didn’t work for me, imagine all the killer looks you will get from this one single jacket! I can envision it being paired with a vintage novelty shirt, skinny jeans, and Doc Marten boots or with a gorgeous floral wrap dress and ankle booties. The options are endless with this jacket!
Melton Plaid Skirt by BP Size 3x — Retail Value $52 (on sale for $31.20)
Last, but not least, is this blue and red plaid wool skirt. I appreciated that Stefania included this skirt along with pieces like the camisole and body suit that coordinate so perfectly. I also loved the textures of the wool against the velvet. The combo of the three made me think of something Cher or Dionne would have worn in the movie, Clueless—so you know I was loving it for one! I also envision revisiting my high school days and pairing this with my favorite ripped up band t-shirt, fishnets, and combat boots. I like that a piece like this can be worn by a wild child or someone with a more posh, preppy style as well. The skirt is made of toasty wool-like fabric with limited stretch. This piece works best for fall and winter months, so I suggest hopping on it now to get some wear before the warmer spring weather arrives!
The Verdict: This month’s Trunk Club was a fun one! I appreciated that my stylist, Stefania, took the feedback of my love for the BP brand and ran with it! Five of the ten items sent to me were BP brand pieces - no complaints there! I am so pleased that she has introduced me to brands like BP and Leith that offer such unique designs at reasonable price points! That is the beauty of a subscription box like Trunk Club - being introduced to brands I may never have heard of till now! I actually kept a BP item from this month’s box: the red mock neck bodysuit, so there you go! I also love having the mall brought to me in way of this subscription box. I lead a busy life and I don’t always have the time to just go shopping casually, so services like Trunk Club are a blessing!
