My Trunk Club Review
My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.
They include a pamphlet that provides product information, how to get the most from your trunk, and free shipping label and tape strips.
Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.
Ruched Velvet Dress by Rebel Wilson X Angels, Size 2x—Retail Value $58.80
My stylist, Stefania, understands my fondness of velvet pieces and Rebel Wilson X Angel’s selections; no shock that she sent this dress my way! The ruching adds a flattering touch to an otherwise standard black dress. I love the velvet fabric and how it hugs my curves. I paired this dress with black ankle boots for a tough, casual look - but one could dress this up with heels and a faux fur coat to add more textures to the outfit.
Good Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans by GOOD AMERICAN, Size 24w—Retail Value $169 (found here for $101.40)
This is my first time trying out Khloe Kardashian’s jeans brand, GOOD AMERICAN. If you frequently read my reviews, you know that I love leopard print, so these pants definitely appeal to me! It is a classic neutral that goes with EVERYTHING as far as I am concerned. I do feel, though, the cut on these jeans is meant for a taller person. I wonder how the size 22 would fit, especially due to the long crotch. They are high waisted on me, but still has a ton of material in that region. The legs seem significantly longer on me than the model on the Nordstrom site too. Other than that I love the print and stretch of the fabric. I paired the pants with my favorite golden yellow sweater from one of my recent Trunk Club boxes, but these would look fierce with a black bodysuit and heels for a night out!
Embroidered High Waist Ankle Slim Jeans by Wit and Wisdom, Size 24W—Retail Value $98
I am very selective when it comes to embroidered jeans. These are no exception. I must be honest with you guys, these were not my cup of tea. I was not keen on the style and these were far too baggy on me. I wonder if a size 22 would have been a better fit for me. I do, however, like the grey rinse on these, I will give them that! I styled the jeans with a floral print top that Stefania sent in my box, but I can envision these looking marvelous with a white cropped t-shirt in warmer weather!
Velvet Tulip Sleeve Ruffle Top by Madewell Size 2x — Retail Value $98
I prefer the styling of this adorable Madewell top with this faux leather mini due to the contrast of the two fabrics. I can see why Stefania chose this top for me: it is velvet and has a retro floral print. The top fits me right at the waist and accentuates it with the cutesy ruffle detail. I love the rust against the black and white designs on this top as well. This would pair wonderfully with black skinny leg jeans, western boots, a faux leather biker jacket, and a large brimmed hat for a 70s style look.
Genuine Fox Fur Earmuffs by KYI KYI—Retail Value $85 (sold out)
I love earmuffs— I actually have a leopard print pair from LOFT that I prefer wearing to hats in the winter. Our cold weather extends well into spring, so it is not unusual to still reluctantly be wearing a pair of these in thirty-degree weather in April. The muffs are so incredibly soft! I didn’t read the description till now and was unaware they were made from fox fur. I generally avoid purchasing real fur. I have a vintage fur shrug I found thrifting years ago, but I feel that is justifiable because it is not a new piece. I sense I would much prefer these in a faux fur—I want those cute foxes still frolicking around in their furs! That being said, I do love these styled with the Madewell top—they make for an adorable combo.
One-Shoulder Jumpsuit by Leith, Size 3x—Retail Value $55
Over the nearly two years that I have been reviewing subscription boxes for MSA, I have tried out fashion trends I never fathomed I would! One of which being: jumpsuits. I requested my stylist to send me this jumpsuit because it made me think of David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust glam era. This jumpsuit has ample stretch, and though it fit well in the midsection was a smidge baggy in the chest. I love the silver-flecked material and the disco vibes I got from this piece, but I ultimately didn’t keep it since I wasn’t sold entirely on the fit on me. However, I have said it before and I will say it again: I love the awesome styles from the Leith brand. They offer amazingly glamorous and outrageous pieces in plus sizes that are high quality as well! In addition, the pieces are so reasonably priced. I hope Nordstrom never stops carrying this brand!
Ruffle Sleeve Top by Rachel Roy Collection Size 18w—Retail Value $95
How can one go wrong with animal print? It is only made better with this sheer red animal print blouse! Rachel Roy designs are known for being fiercely elegant, gorgeous, and celebrating a variety of body shape and sizes. This blouse has a ruffle detail that goes from the collar to the sleeves. I am immensely picky when it comes to ruffles, but I love how these were done on this particular top. I styled it with my go-to faux leather mini-skirt and booties, but this would look fantastic at the office with high waisted, wide legged black trousers and pointy black heels. Add a camisole underneath for modesty or a killer fitted black blazer for a sexy menswear-inspired look.
Sparkle Bodysuit by Leith, Size 3x—Retail Value $35.40 (sold out)
Stefania sent me another killer Leith piece. You guys always ask what I keep in my reviews, and this was the one piece I did. What can I say, it was a must! I am still trying to master wearing bodysuits, but they are worth the trouble for that seamless tucked in look! This piece was a must too because of the sparkle material and the fierce deep v-neck. This looks great with a mini-skirt, but also paired with skinny leg jeans, a red faux leather biker jacket, and silver flats for a comfortable, yet captivating ensemble!
Velvet Burnout Stripe Dress by Leith Size 3x—Retail Value $85
This velvet striped shirt dress style from Leith is ideal for cooler weather. The material itself is rather lightweight, but the color palette is regal and perfect for fall and winter months. The dress is limited in stretch, but has a great cut and fit. This would look great with leggings and metallic flats or tights and pointy toe buckle boots. I can easily see wearing this in the office or a date!
Off the Shoulder Jumpsuit by City Chic, Size LW—Retail Value $119
My stylist sent me another jumpsuit option, this particular one being incredibly chic and classic in style. This City Chic jumpsuit is off the shoulder with a tie at the waist for definition and wide legs. The fabric has stretch and is rather comfortable to wear. This piece would be elegant enough for a springtime wedding or professional enough for a business meeting. Pair this with cat eyes and open toe heels in warmer weather for a stylishly refined ensemble.
Tessa Stone Stud Earrings by Kendra Scott—Retail Value $65
Stefania also included these rose gold stone stud earrings by Tessa Stone. I generally wear silver and occasionally gold, but rarely rose gold pieces. The rose gold is beautiful and such a warm apricot pink shade. I love it against my skin tone and do appreciate that these are fantastic for everyday wear, but I still passed on these lovely earrings.
August Loafer by Naturalizer Size 9.5—Retail Value $109.95
I love loafer style shoes, they are effortlessly cool and chic. I love the Naturalizer brand, they make stylish yet immensely comfortable shoes! These shoes have a sturdy foam-like base but are incredibly well made. These felt like walking on clouds. I also like the black patent leather-like material these shoes are constructed from. One can wear a pair of loafer like these with a pencil skirt and button-down blouse at the office or a faux leather biker jacket, band shirt, skinny jeans, with black cat eyes for a put together, yet casual ensemble.
The Verdict: This month’s Trunk Club had a variety of fancy pieces to wear before the warm weather sets in. I appreciated the sparkly, glitzy items that Stefania sent my way as well as the more understated pieces I could wear to work or for everyday events. The only piece I disliked was the Wit and Wisdom embroidered jeans, they just weren’t my style whatsoever. I was very excited to see so many Leith pieces this month as well; they are quickly becoming one of my favorite brands that Nordstrom carries. If you are a person on the go like me, especially someone that appreciates the luxury brands that Nordstrom is known for, this subscription box is a dream come true! I love the convenience of bringing the shopping mall to me and can’t suggest this service enough.
