Trunk Club For Women March 2019 Review
My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.
They include a pamphlet that provides product information, how to get the most from your trunk, and free shipping label and tape strips.
Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.
Bateau Neck Sweater by Halogen, Size 2x - Retail Value $49
This light-weight striped sweater is a perfect transitional piece for spring! The thin knit makes this wonderful for layering with a light jacket or blazer. The color palette of lavender, pastel yellow, navy, and Kelly-green stripes remind me of an Easter egg! I styled the top with the black leggings, my stylist, Stefania, also included for me. However, I can imagine wearing this sweater with a white mini skirt, pink beret, and saddle shoes for an adorable ensemble to wear on a museum date. I can also envision this sweater paired with black dress pants and heels at the office for a classic, yet professional look!
High Waist Mesh Tuxedo Stripe Denim Leggings by Hue, Size 3x - Retail Value $50 (no longer available)
I love a good skinny leg pant, and these denim leggings are an on-point example of what I like! The fit is great and incredibly tapered at the ankle. These pants have great stretch as well. I absolutely love the mesh stripe on each leg—it adds a touch of sass! These look great with the sweater that Stefania selected for me, but best believe I would pair these with a leopard print scoop neck bodysuit, my favorite double buckle belt, and pointy flats for a Peg meets Kelly Bundy inspired look for a night out on the town!
50mm Cat Eye Sunglasses by BP - Estimated Value $16 (based on similar glasses found here)
Nothing is more classic or cool than a pair of cat eye glasses. These blue cat eye sunglasses further prove my point. This pair is made of a lightweight plastic material with gold metal on the arms and matching blue plastic where they hug the ears. These can be worn all year round, but certainly, evoke a spring/summer vibe. That pastel blue matches the blue skies and pool water I have missed so much the last seven months. Pair these with a t-shirt and jeans or your favorite swimsuit at the beach for a retro touch!
Adelina Faux Leather Ruffle Clutch by Sole Society - Retail Value $44.95
A clutch is an awesome piece for special occasions or events where you want a smaller bag to carry the essentials. This Sole Society bag has a ruffle detail that enhances this otherwise plain clutch. It has a wristlet strap for convenience as well. Pair this with your favorite pair of skinny jeans and a button-down blouse for a movie date with your sweetheart!
Ruffled Tie Neck Blouse by CeCe, Size 2x - Retail Value $69
My stylist, Stefania, is fully aware of my passion for retro-style pieces so it's no surprise she included this pussy-bow blouse. This top is perfect for spring and summer but can be worn in colder months layered with a blazer or cardigan. I am usually unsure about pale pink colors due to my fair complexion, but I feel this actually complements my coloring well. The fabric has no stretch, but the cut of this top is so great that it is not needed. Wear this top with your favorite skinny leg jeans or with a pencil skirt and metallic flats at the office.
Clip Dot Ruffle Cardigan by CeCe Size 2x—Retail Value $99
Speaking of retro pieces--behold this adorable cardigan! I absolutely love the sheer sleeves with the heart-shaped dot detail. To be honest, I appreciate all the attention to details on this piece. It has such a romantic, cute vibe going on. The only negative is that it was a smidge snug across and gaps at the buttons on the chest—oh, the plight of an ample bosom! I am curious if the 3x would have fit better or have been too big. Either way, I am smitten with this piece. I was sad to send it back, but I just couldn’t justify it due to the cost and fit.
Stripe Sweater Skirt by BP, Size 3x—Retail Value $45 (found on sale here for $22.49)
I live in bodycon and pencil-style skirts, so this piece is right up my alley! I don’t wear white terribly often (mainly because I am a clumsy slob that wears my food as much as I eat it), but this vertically striped skirt works. The thicker knit sweater material is wonderful for cooler weather in the fall and winter! This looks phenomenal paired with the CeCe cardigan Stefania included, but I would definitely dress it down with a vintage band shirt and booties as well. You all know that is my M.O by now, I sense!
Faux Leather Crossbody Bag by BP in Red - Retail Value $39
What a bold, yet classic mainstay of a bag, wow! This crossbody bag is fantastic for daily use; you can fit a planner, cosmetics, wallet, sunglasses, and a number of other items easily in this. Red is one of my favorite colors, so I was immediately drawn to this piece. I styled it with the BP skirt and CeCe cardigan to add a pop! It adds so much to an otherwise neutral ensemble! My only complaint is that it does not have a zipper enclosure, I prefer zipper because it is more secure.
Seamless Two-Way Camisole by Halogen, Size 2x - Retail Value $29
You may be shocked by this, but until this Trunk Club box, I did not own a basic black camisole! I know, it is kind of bonkers! It is such a good foundation piece to have in your wardrobe, so this was the one item I did keep from this month’s selections. The beauty of this camisole is it is seamless and has ultra-stretch. The material is less like cotton fabric and more like that of, say, a SPANX piece. This will keep you in well and is actually rather comfortable. You can wear it alone or under sheer tops for coverage. Nordstrom’s site also has these camisoles at a deal for two for $49. They are incredibly well made, so it is a decent value!
Cheetah Print Raw Edge Miniskirt by GOOD AMERICAN, Size24 - Retail Value $149 (found on sale here for $89.40)
Animal prints are my go-to. I don’t care if they are leopard, cheetah, tiger, or zebra print--hand them over! This skirt is well made and has stretch, but doesn’t lose its shape. This is a classic denim skirt cut that will look great on any body shape or size as well! Pair this with a black mock turtleneck short sleeved shirt, black tights, and booties for the office or wear this out on the weekend with your favorite low cut top and wedge heels!
Mock Neck Floral Pattern Sheer Mesh Blouse by Michel Studio Size 2x - Retail Value $49 (currently sold out)
This mesh blouse is so pretty! I like the mock turtleneck aspect and the mesh material is incredibly soft. The Halogen camisole was handy for this piece because it would be a tad scandalous otherwise! The vividly vivacious pinks and lavenders against the teal green leaves are gorgeous. This top has great stretch and would look stunning paired with a faux leather mini skirt as well!
Ankle Skinny Jeans by SLINK Jeans in Pink Size 24 - Retail Value $88
I usually avoid hot pink pieces, but these jeans are pretty dang cute! SLINK jeans are known for being made with curvy bodies in mind. The fit is always spot on. I would have liked to see what the smaller size would have fit like because I sense the more I would move in these they would stretch a bit. I loved this outfit, though! I may have never selected these pieces for myself, but my stylist manages to make unexpected magic happen! These pink jeans would look great with everything from a black and white striped t-shirt and sneakers to a floral blouse with pinks, oranges, and yellows for the spring. Speaking of orange, did you know these come in a mandarin hue as well? SIGN ME UP!
The Verdict: This month had quite a few head turners. I appreciate that Stefania created complete outfits in this box to try. Even though there are fully realized ensembles in this month’s selections, I can also envision these pieces paired with items I already own! My favorite items were the cheetah print GOOD AMERICAN skirt, CeCe cardigan, and the BP bag because I feel they are all rather versatile pieces. I did keep the Halogen tank for that reason, so with my $25 Trunk Club fee, the tank was a mere $4. Can’t beat that! I love having the mall brought to me since I am always busy at either of my jobs or on the go with projects. A box like Trunk Club alleviates some stress in that regard. They make it so easy by not only delivering the box directly to you, but you can also arrange with them to have UPS pick up the box free of charge as well. You just can’t beat it!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!
Value Breakdown: This box’s styling fee costs $25 and includes free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the twelve items inside is $726.95. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep anything, the $25 cost of the box’s styling fee would also be applied to the purchase. That’s an average $58.50 an item, which is on par with the brands included.
