The FabFitFun Box is a quarterly subscription from FabFitFun.com. Each season they send you a box of $200+ worth items in categories like beauty, fashion, and fitness.

FYI – FabFitFun transitioned to a new Warehouse Management System in the past few months and there have been some issues in shipping since then. Some readers have reported not receiving their Summer Box or Summer Edit sale items yet. We’ll update when we have more information, but please keep in mind that shipping may be delayed with FabFitFun orders currently.

Each season, FabFitFun features a different design for their box - and they are always so pretty!

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: FabFitFun Box

The Cost: $49.99 a box sent every quarter

The Products: The hottest seasonal items (worth at least $200) selected by the FabFitFun team

Ships to: US and Canada

Check out all of my FabFitFun VIP Box reviews and the Women’s Subscription Box Directory!

FabFitFun sends out a mini mag in each box. It details the items included and also provides background on some of the featured makers and designers. You'll also find exclusive coupons for the brands featured in the box.

Now, time for the items! (If you aren't familiar, FabFitFun lets subscribers pick several of their items each season - I'll show you what I picked for each selection.)

First choice item:

All subscribers will be able to pick Plush Ultra Soft Plaid Scarf, amika Strand Perfect Ceramic Styler, or Anthropologie Travel Yoga Mat, or a mystery item.

My Pick:

Plush Ultra Soft Plaid Scarf - Listed Retail Value $75

I think this is the most "fall" item in the box, plus I can never get enough scarves, so this was an easy pick for me. Plus despite having an extensive scarf collection (thanks, subscription boxes), I don't have any blue plaid options, so this is a new look, too. The scarf has a raw fringe edge and the fabric is 70% Polyester and 30% Viscose. (And it is very soft just like the name promises).

Second choice item:

All subscribers are able to pick the kate spade new york Lunch Tote, NassifMD® Detox Pads, The Kut from The Kloth Slim Striped Wallet, or Twine Cheese Board with Plate.

My Pick:

Kate Spade New York Lunch Tote - Retail Value $30

I LOVE that FabFitFun got a Kate Spade item as one of the options this season! It's super cute and practical, too. (Plus it gives me Back to School vibes which ties into the Fall themed box I'm trying to make with my choices!)

This lunch tote measures 7"h x 8"w x 4.5"d, has an insulated interior, a coated linen cloth exterior (so it shouldn't stain), and reads "Out to Lunch." And the black polka dots with the gold zipper pull accents are a chic touch, too.

Third choice item:

All subscribers get to pick The Better Skin Co Skin Lava Magik, BaubleBar Ear Crawlers, or Cosmedix Pure C Vitamin C Mixing Crystals.

My Pick:

The Better Skin Co Skin Lava Magik- Retail Value $32

I picked this item because it's ingredient-conscious (they follow the ingredient guidelines set by Whole Foods) and because I can always use an exfoliating product. (If it ends up being too harsh for my face, I use it as a body scrub.) I really like the sweet orange essential oil scent, and I found this worked well for me as an exfoliator 2 times a week. (If you have sensitive skin, I definitely recommend patch testing first, and I saw in reviews that some people had reactions to using this as a mask, so I stuck to using it as an exfoliator.)

The tub is on the tiny side, but you only need a small amount, so it should last a while, too.

Fourth choice item:

Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Roller Ball, Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Mask 6 Pack, or SKIN&CO Roma Truffle Therapy Face Toner.

(Annual subscribers get to pick their item. Seasonal subscribers will be surprised.)

My Pick:

Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Eye Masks – Retail Value $25

I’ve sampled these before and they are great, so I had to pick them. They are super gentle and soothing, plus they are ingredient-conscious! (Paraben-free, Phthalate-free, Synthetic fragrance-free, and cruelty-free!)

They come in a plastic disc to help keep things as non-messy as possible - and I love the gold foil. (As far as masks go, I'd say these are the most selfie-friendly ones I've come across.)  You wear them for just 10 minutes, and they stay in place so well. (If you've ever worn eye masks that keep sliding off your face, I'm sure you can apprecaite this feature!) The formula has a faint (natural) lavender scent and is designed to help with hydration and diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I've been using these every day before I put on makeup and it's such an easy addition to my morning routine.

Fifth choice item:

(Annual subscribers get to pick their item. Seasonal subscribers will be surprised.)

Eparé Dual Salt and Pepper Mill, Afterspa Hair Towel Wrap, trèStiQue Mini Eye Essentials – Set of 4, or  Skinvolve Body Boost Gel.

My Pick:

Eparé Dual Salt and Pepper Mill - Retail Value $21.95

I picked the salt and pepper mill since I'm almost always going to pick a home item when I get the chance, and this looked both stylish and practical. It was super simple to add the salt and pepper (FYI you'll need to supply the salt and pepper - this doesn't come with it). I've been using it every day, and it's definitely an upgrade over my Trader Joe's Salt + Pepper grinders!

Now that we've gone through all the choice options, here are the items all subscribers will receive:

Harper + Ari Exfoliating Sugar Cubes in Juice Cleanse - Value Listed $16

(All subscribers get this item.)

I've actually been wanting to try these body scrub cubes for a while now, so I was very happy to see these in the box. (Basically, you can think of each cube as a single serving size of body scrub.) I found applying the cube directly to my skin to be a bit on the harsh side, but that makes it perfect for rough skin around my ankles and feet. You can also break the cube down with water before applying, which makes it a bit gentler in my opinion. The scent is sweet but not overpowering, and it didn't linger. Also, this scrub isn't the kind that leaves your skin oily, so it's great to use as a prep step before self tanner.

Human + Kind Body Souffle - Retail Value $18

(All subscribers get this item.)

This is a generously sized body lotion! It's an ingredient-conscious formulation made with apricot oil and shea butter (cruelty-free and no parabens). I was legit impressed with how quickly it absorbed - it left my skin feeling moisturized with zero greasiness. And I found the scent to be light and pleasant, too.

Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair - Retail Value $30

(All subscribers get this item.)

I think this is one of the few times I've ever seen Aveda in a subscription box - impressive! And this cream smells SO good! It's designed to help prevent against heat damage, and it's ingredient-conscious, too. I've been using it every day and I probably will end up buying more once this tube is done - I like it that much. This was probably my favorite discovery in the box!

Verdict: This box has a value of $211-$330+ depending on which items you pick. I think that's great for $49.99. (It works out to $6.25 an item). This is definitely a box where once I have all the items in my hands and I've used them, I like it even more than when I first saw the spoilers. I think my only critiques of this box are that 1. it didn't feel very seasonal (though I tried my best to pick the items I felt had the most fall vibes), 2. it seemed pretty skincare/beauty heavy (which might not be for everyone) and 3. there didn't seem to be a hero item.

Of course, the flip side to those critiques is that FabFitFun offers more customization than any other subscription, and you can make a box more seasonal if you want with their Add-Ons, too.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? As of today, 9/12, yes! (You'll be able to make your product selections after you sign up.)

I just re-subbed as a seasonal subscriber for $25. I chose the scarf, the Kate Spade lunchbox, and the ear crawlers (because the lava magik was sold out, which was annoying, and which you can’t find out in advance). But the ear crawlers will be a good gift for my son’s girlfriend if they don’t work for me. Have no idea what I’ll get for the other choices, but for $25, it’s a good deal. The RV of the Aveda product alone is more than $25, and since I use a curling iron every day, I look forward to trying it. Not sure I’ll stay subscribed though.

Nobody will ever read this…I looked back to find one of Liz’s last reviews. I just miss your reviews, I really valued your opinions. Oh well!! Take care!!

The only product I really, really wanted to know about was the Lava Magik. But that was hardly a “review” if you can even call it that. “I like the scent and use it twice a week”? 💩

I have to give FFF some love. I saw a commercial and decided to subsribe to FFF. This is my first subscription experience. Then I decided to do some research and my first thought was “What have I gotten myself into”. After reading several reviews I saw there was a Laborday code where you not only got $10.00 off but a Mystery Bundle. I chatted with CS online and hey honored the new code and added the Mystery Bundle! My Fall Box shipped within a week of my order much to my surprise after reading all the horror stories about deliveries! I got my box today and am very happy with all my goodies. I did have a Mystery choice and received the Deep Exfoliating Glove and Dermelect Sleep Serum. My Mystery Bundle has not shipped but is showing in my orders. I am so happy with FFF that I signed my future daughter in law up last night with the FALL50 code! I hope this kind of service continues!

And….. I am so hooked now on all the subscription choices….. thinking about BOS and PSMH😀 This really is an addiction😜

Noelle L

Ordered with the Fall50 code. When I saw the offer I jumped on it. I always think of my DIL as I don’t need any more stuff (household items in particular.) Some of her Christmas shopping is now done… 🙂

I selected the flat iron and now it says I’m getting a mystery item??? Mystery item wasn’t even an option for that category I’m pissed if the straightener doesn’t come tomorrow

Reply ButtonReply

Angela Tait

Yea I didn’t even order because the flat irons said they were sold out =(

Reply ButtonReply

Shan marie

I have the flat iron. I would trade you

The amika hair straightener was the one item I was looking forward to, and it’s lousy. I’m going back to my old one. The Kate Spade lunch bag is too small for lunches. I do like the make up and skin care choices that they offer; but the non-makeup stuff is pretty disappointing. I won’t re-up next year.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

Curious what was wrong with the Amika straightener? I haven’t used mine yet cause I rarely do my hair (it is so hot in TX that I just let it air dry).

The hair towel (that I was excited to get cause I use them like crazy) broke before the 2nd use. I was really upset cause it really did help my hair dry faster.

I also got the lunch bag. I like it but I don’t love it. I find myself switching between bags because, yes, it is not wide enough (from front to back). I also wish it had a shoulder strap.

The lotion and sugar cubes are probably going to be gifted. I detest Aveda products, they just make me feel greasy all over, so it is going to be gifted as well.

The roller ball I’ve used a few times and got a 2nd one for a friend (via ebay) who is an imsomniac. She says it does relax her. And the earrings I have worn once, but will wear them again.

Reply ButtonReply

Christy

Stephanie, I’d love the Aveda if you’re interested in a swap or how much would you sell it for? Thanks!

MissPippa

This is my third box after I got an annual subscription. I have been fortunate enough to get everything on time, nothing missing or broken, and I have been pleased with the products & selection. I will probably not renew simply because I just get too much stuff already. Reading about all the problems, complaints was a real bummer. I enjoyed Liz’s review and going forward I will stick to the reviews & skip the comments.

Reviewers are the advertisers for the boxes… they always get top tier customer service and the top selections for products. It’s the regular customers that show the real CS and issues that arise. Comments show the nitty gritty and can show all the issues. I think knowing of others issues is far more beneficial. I would rather know the *what ifs* than be shocked

Reply ButtonReply

Samara Densmore

I appreciate your written review! It’s much quicker to read than it is to watch a loong drawn out youtube review.

Sammee

There’s some truth to that, but I think it’s also the case that dissatisfied customers – whether it be due to product quality or a bad experience with CS – tend to be the most vocal. I’ve always had a good experience with FFF and even had a good experience with their CS yesterday, but truth be told, it didn’t occur to me to come on here and post about it. When I have a bad experience with a box, I feel the need to warn everyone.

Michele

Mystery bundles never peak my interest. FFF has A LOT of crap. And from past experiences they use the left over crap to make their “mystery bundles”. If it was anything mind blowing, they would let you know what it is. That way they would sell many more than they do without revealing what’s in the bundle.

Reply ButtonReply

Christy

I signed up yesterday but noticed the amika straightener is not available so I used live chat to cancel. It was a complete nightmare. she kept telling me that they absolutely do not do any cancellations and that since my credit card has already been charged there is nothing she can do. It was 5 minutes after I signed up and I had not even completed picking the items! She said instead of canceling she would give me $5 off the next box 🙄 I told her I know for a fact they can cancel and refund my money and she put me on hold for a while and then told me that I was really getting a good deal because it was over $200 in items for only $40 and she doesn’t understand why I wouldn’t want to keep the box. I told her because the jewelry and the makeup and skincare brands that they carry are overinflated retail value and usually they are brands that no one has even heard of. I told her I have no interest in a cheese tray or a ridiculously overpriced scarf and that the only thing in the box that is good is the Aveda damage remedy and that is the only thing I would use so it is not worth it for me to get this box. Finally after putting me on hold yet again she said she will go ahead and respect my wishes and cancel my order and issue a refund.

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy

My roommate used to get FFF and once they charged her for 2 boxes. When she asked for a refund they said it wasn’t possible and sent her 2 boxes anyway, one of which she couldn’t even choose what was inside.
I also saw the items she got and most of the lifestyle items looked cheap with overinflated prices (like a robe that had a tear even though it was only worn around the house a few times and a cheap backpack that easily could’ve cost like $10 at Ross but retailed for over $50 according to FFF I believe). If I personally subbed to FFF I think I’d do it for the skin/hair/body care items as those seem to be the only items worth it for me

Reply ButtonReply

Karen

What a lovely introduction to the company!

Their customer service is so remarkably inconsistent, they really a total overhaul on that front. The outcome of an issue should not depend on the luck of the draw as to which CS rep happens to pick up your call, but sadly that’s the way it is with them.

I’m sorry (but sadly, not super surprised) that you first (and last!) CS interaction was so lousy.

Reply ButtonReply

Tanya

I love he fff box. I will use all 8 items and at $6.25 per item, it’s a great deal! I love trying new things from them. I discovered I couldn’t shower without the cubes, for example, and got 4 bottles. 😂

I have had missing and broken items and shipping issues, but usually it’s for other sale or add-on items, so I have seriously scaled back on those, to avoid the annoyance of having to contact CS multiple times.

For a lovely, reasonably priced box to try new things, it’s my favorite.

winter 019 is the worst box ever. same old items nothing new or interesting I rate this a big fat zero

Reply ButtonReply

Dh

Winter box hasn’t come out yet. The boxes that were just delivered were the fall boxes

Grace

I forgot to go in and make my choices so I was dreading opening my box. I got a full size Exfolikate as the mystery item(didn’t want any of 3 choices, but would have never chosen mystery), detox pads(would have chosen), pure c(again would have chosen), trestique (would have chosen), aromatherapy (1 of the 3 that I would have liked) so it turned out to be a great box for me!

Kelly

Must be awesome to get these subscription boxes for free just for giving a good review of the box and items I closed. I’m disabled with nothing to do all day. I’d love to get stuff to review.

Reply ButtonReply

Reidy

@kelly Nothing is *free* Reviewers work really darn hard setting up a fan base, consistent reviews and they spend a lot of $$$ starting up. They pay crazy money for boxes at the beginning. It’s *only* when they have put in the time and money do the companies start sending the stuff- and then is legit free advertising for them!! So really- the notion of them getting stuff for free is wide of the mark.

Nanci

It is awesome to get boxes for free but it’s harder work than it seems.

There has been a delay in shipping. I only recently received my summer edit box. It got to a point where I was convinced it had been stolen or delivered to the wrong address. Maybe the fall boxes got out quicker but there has definitely been issues with them switching out fulfillment locations.

Reply ButtonReply

Carrie

To be honest, this is one of favourite FFF boxes to date and that was totally unexpected! I went with the mystery item and received a Dr. Brandt facial cleanser and Dermelect foot treatment cream. Couldn’t be happier! Also went with the ear climbers, Nassif MD detox facial pads, and Wander eye masks, all of which I like a lot. The only misses for me were the Aveda hair product and the Trestique eye crayons (I chose the latter because nothing else in that tier excited me) but both are giftable so no loss. The overwhelming majority of the items in this season’s box are big wins for me so, despite an iffy Autumn themed curation, I’m totally pleased.

Fall was a huge disappointment for me. It’s basically a bunch of random stuff tossed into a box – the scarf is nice, but that’s about it. Those cubes are utterly ridiculous, I used one in the shower and am tossing the rest away. The salt/pepper mill is attractive but not well-made, I’m sure it will be broken within a few months. I loved the summer box, this one was a real letdown for me. Here’s hoping that winter is a good one – the hint of a faux fur blanket cheered me up some.

Reply ButtonReply

Susie

Liz I am honestly shocked by your comment of the delayed shipping. From the community it seems to be a very very small number of people. I got my fall box in my fastest shipment yet, weeks ago and even received a replacement and stuff I ordered in the shop too. I am loving the new warehouse. Also I subscribe to several other similar subscriptions and have rarely seen a critical review from you. Your review of this box surprised me. Hope to see more critical reviews of other subs too if that’s what you are going for.

Reply ButtonReply

Elizabeth

Susie, “shocked?” Really? Liz does an outstanding job of keeping her readers informed of issues, something she seems to take pride in and is appreciated by many. I admittedly do not follow the FFF community but am in some swap groups on social media and people have not received their boxes or have had issues. As for me, I have been an annual subscriber for over 3 years and lately have had a (real) issue with every single box (e.g., things arrived shattered) and I was missing an item from the fall ’19 box, incidentally the one thing I was looking forward to the most. After contacting CS, they wanted a photo of the box to “prove” it and told me it would take 3 weeks for them to ship a replacement (ship, not receive). I said this was unacceptable, particularly given the literal half-dozen of issues in the past year (for me) and was informed the warehouse system is not up to speed yet but would poop rainbows if I’m just patient. I remarked that I’ve spent at least $2k in subs and add-ons over the past few years and that they are ThisClose to losing that. The response was a lukewarm “oh no! please give us another chance.” Not a chance. I’m canceling as soon as my replacement item arrives.

kate

Susie, glad you have gotten yours but I still haven’t gotten mine. I got a delayed shipping email weeks ago and nothing since and it hasn’t shipped in my account. Of course, neither have whatever is left of the summer edit items they aren’t sold out of yet. I don’t have a refund either.

Karen

If you go onto the community page on FFF’s own website you will see that there are still a bunch of people still waiting for summer items (from the edit sale, editor’s box and even the quarterly box). I’m talking beach towels, pool floats, etc. that were bought and paid for 2+ months ago and will now arrive in the Fall, if ever. There’s been a ton of miscommunication, out of stock items and false promises and people have been beyond frustrated, understandably. I’m hopeful the tide has turned now and the new warehouse system will eliminate most of these issues but the growing pains were REALLY showing for a while there.

It’s awesome that you weren’t affected but many people were (and still are). I did not read Liz’s comment as being critical, just truthful, as she has been about many other boxes with comparable issues (Ex. Rachel Zoe).

People appreciate the honesty of MSA. It’s nice to know that this site isn’t always just one big bought and paid for, flowery commercial for every single sub box every single time.

Liz Cadman

Hi Susie,

I personally haven’t had any issues with my orders from FabFitFun either, but many of our readers have brought this up, so I wanted to include it in the review. And I really liked this box – sorry if that didn’t come across in the verdict. I just thought I should call out some of the issues I could see people having with the box.

Stephanie

Respectfully Susie, I personally received two delayed shipping emails from FFF. I don’t think the note about shipping is critical at all. Just an honest statement about what some people are saying and a promise to update.

Renee

I agree it was not a pure “fall” curation, but I liked it much more than I anticipated. I needed a flat iron and like the Amika one. So it was a win for me off the top. I will use most of what I received. I was happy not to get fitness or kitchen items, like the Kate Spade tote, and adore Aveda. It was objectively a much better box for me than Summer. Luckily, we all like different things!

Reply ButtonReply

Jodi

I skipped this box. I either have it (lotion/lunch bag) or don’t need it (scarf/salt shaker).

Reply ButtonReply

Misha

I got this box and immediately cancelled. While I liked a lot of the things, I thought the *HERO* item was going to be the Amika hair tool. I love a lot of Amika’s product, shampoo, conditioner, dry shampoo, hair mask etc. BUT this straightener is the worst one I’ve ever used! It grabs your hair, makes it stick, and pulls it out! I am a pro with a straightener, I curl my hair with it! This one was terrible and I feel like I should just chuck it. Very sad about it too

Reply ButtonReply

Peggy Chapman

My initial love for the subscription concept was the idea of getting a swag bag of treats, for little or nothing. The thrill of getting a goodie bag when buying something from a department store makeup counter…
This is spending $50 at TJ Maxx, without going to TJ Maxx, and limited product and the thrill of discovering something on your own.
Little discoveries for $10 is much more exciting than useless choices for $50.

Reply ButtonReply

Ronda

Their blow up dishonest retail value of the scarf has turned me off from FFF for life. Items are way too often blown up in value but, this one probably is the worst.
As well as some getting shipments really late, the flip side to that is, some have received as many has over a dozen.. which of course isn’t a negative for some! Lol… But wow, FFF has some serious issues lately.

Reply ButtonReply

Pamela

Yup, though this price comes from the company who sells these items on their website but who knows if it was just added because of FFF. There is no chance in hell this is $75. It’s 70% polyester and made in China. Yuk!

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

What is a hero item? Never heard the term before. It wasn’t my favorite box, but I didn’t hate it, honestly. The straightener alone was worth the cost, and I’m using the lunch box daily.

Reply ButtonReply

Ronda

I noticed your question hasn’t been answered so, I thought I’d give it a try.
A Hero item in any sub box is also known as a, “Big Ticket Item”. Something that may stand out truly in value or Full Sized loved item. Like a full Sunday Riley product is always considered a Hero item or maybe a Too Faced Palette.
Hope this definition helps you.

Reply ButtonReply

Brandi

Just got my box and I am sorely disappointed. Everything that I selected and wanted I did not receive. I even wound up getting a mystery item (face cleanser) which I can’t even use because of sensitive instead of the other first choice items. This has been the worst box that I’ve gotten so far.

MJ

I was not looking forward to this box at all, but once I got it, I loved it. I got the flat iron, which works well. Not high end but it does the job. I love the Aveda hair cream. I got the lunch bag which I’m going to gift. I really like the lava makic, the body cream, the sugar cubes, and the aromatherapy roller. The only meh is the eyeshadow sticks – they crease very easily on me. It’s not exactly fall, but I’ll use everything.

Reply ButtonReply

zo

I did not get this box but if I received everything that Liz did I’d be very happy. I’d use everything except the lunch box. Now I’ll just try and swap for some of the items.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

I think FFF missed the decimal point on the retail price of their scarf. Instead of the ridiculous price of $75, I think the true wholesale price from China is .75 cents and their retail price to consumers is $7.50…a fancy shop might be $17.50.

Seriously FFF, anyone with half a brain can see the ridiculousness in this price….

Reply ButtonReply

Lily

I’m sorry but our trash pickup day was yesterday. The items I didn’t like are gone.
I do this with every sub box I get- it’s nothing personal. I just throw out what I know I won’t use, or it piles up.

Our local womens’ shelter has put a moratorium on ALL donations except cash, and I send enough seasonal clothing to the Goodwill to outfit quite a few women very nicely.

Reply ButtonReply

Danielle

Sad 🙁

Sarah

I don’t blame you one bit. I found out that most of the stuff I donated last year at Christmas was tossed in the trash because if it’s not in original retail packaging, it’s trash. It’s your money, your stuff, your time, your business. I quit recycling when I found out that I’m paying extra for that and it doesn’t actually even get recycled.

Dawna

Yep! Nobody else’s business. I’m about to end up throwing out a FFF Box full of stuff from subs nobody wants here, in swaps and in the last year, shelters have changed what can and can’t be donated. Second hand stores, not in retail packaging, it’s trash. Thought I would donate to the free holiday shop as I have in the past. But, that’s changed too. I used to be able to drop off about 2 miles away. Now, it’s make an appointment and drive 30 minutes away just so they can pick through what I have and that’s Catholic charities.

Kelly

This makes me sad. I would love that ring and the popcorn and tea! To hear that you threw it away in the garbage sounds so wasteful. I know it’s yours to do what you please with, but wow. First world problems.

Mary

You could save many of these items for Toys for Tots as gifts for older teen girls!

Susan

I used to love this box, and fall was the most anticipated. Nothing about this box says fall and it’s glaringly TJ Maxx, no hero item. I cancelled after 4 years and have zero regret. I would love to see FFF get it together again.

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa Halliday

I signed up, then immediately called to quit because none of the choices I wanted were available a week or two ago. Their customer service people are at a Philippine call canter, FYI. I wish MSA would stop posting this, because it is misleading at this point. You can’t choose MOST of these options at this point.
