Boxwalla Beauty Box December 2019 Review

Each Boxwalla box comes with a letter printed on high-quality cardstock detailing the items included. This month has three products from unisex Australian brand, Lepaar.

Lepaar Luminous Beauty Balm, 1 oz. (full-size) - Retail Value $102.28 USD ($150 AUD)

Wow wow wow. This product is hands down my favorite from the box. It only just got cold here in Pittsburgh but my skin is already drying out and needs a boost. This beauty balm is incredible at making my skin feel super hydrated and glowing! The contents of this beautiful jar are a lot less solid than I'd expect from a "balm" but I was pleasantly surprised. It has a wonderful subtle scent that comes from chamomile flower, carrot root, black cumin seed oil, turmeric, frankincense and myrrh essential oils, and others. The most extravagant ingredient though has to be the (non-nano) 24k gold which I can see the flecks of in the balm and pulls its weight to bring that aforementioned glow to my skin. In addition to the thirst-quenching formula that I can feel hours after applying, my skin feels incredibly soft as well. I know I shouldn't touch my face too much, but I can't help it! It feels and looks SO NICE. This is going to be my winter go-to facial balm.

Lepaar Luxurious Body Firming Oil, 1.7 oz. - Listed Value $35.00 USD (Buy full-size 6.76 oz. for $129.16 USD [$190 AUS])

This body oil was made to "reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and help firm, tone and strengthen the skin" which is a tall order! I began using this directly on my thighs after showering since that is where I'd prefer to see results the most and it was a very nice experience. This product also includes 24k gold like the balm as well as olive oil, vanilla fruit extract, camellia seed oil, and a plethora of others to help achieve what it promises. The oil itself is a nice balance of not too heavy and not too thin and I could immediately feel how soft it made my skin. I like to stay as touchable as possible, even in the winter, and this oil does a great job of making that happen. I'll need to continue using this to see if it yields stretch-mark reducing results, but for now, the ritual is nice enough. The included bottle is only a travel size but not a ton is needed, so it should hopefully last me a little while into the dark season.

Lepaar Velvet Sole Lip Balm, 0.17 oz - Retail Value $12.27 USD ($18 AUD)

I love that I've been showered with lip treatments in subscription boxes lately. 'Tis the season and I am here for it. This little glass tub has a metallic gold wax seal on the lid just like the beauty balm which I think looks luxurious and DIY at the same time. Their lip balm formula contains papaya seed oil, calendula extract, beeswax, and pink Himalayan crystal salt (although it doesn't add any grit at all). I'll be honest, I was expecting a thicker balm but as soon as I scooped a small portion out and spread it on my lips, it melted into a thin oil. This balm can also be used to tame eyebrows or add a dewy look to cheekbones. I don't know if this is the best balm I've ever tried, but it's beautiful and certainly softens my dry lips.

Verdict: I really like that the Boxwalla Beauty box included three different items this time that covers the needs of my body, face, and lips. It feels like such a complete curation. My favorite item is the incredibly hydrating beauty balm which is complemented nicely by the lip balm and body oil. The packaging for Lepaar is gorgeous and I like that their ingredients are pure and natural and the 24k gold ingredient is a nice little luxurious addition. For me, the beauty balm is well worth the $49.95 cost of the box on its own. With the conversion rates from AUD to USD, this box is worth $149.55 at publication.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Normally you have until November 20th to sign up and get this box (as long as it doesn't sell out), but as of publication, the webpage states December subscriptions are still open! Value Breakdown: At $49.95 for this box, here's how much you'll pay for each item:

Is the beauty balm greasy at all?

I don’t find it greasy at all. Perhaps a bit oily, but as long as you don’t go overboard with the amount you use, it should all get absorbed into the skin without leaving anything behind!

I’ve always almost subbed to this box. It looks unique. I just can’t put essential oils in my skincare.

Is the warning label something that is typical of natural beauty products that are made in Australia? I’ve never seen a product with that warning label before so I was just curious if that was just standard or if there was an ingredient that is possibly not safe for certain people or certain reasons. Any clarification would be super helpful! Thank you!!

Hi All-

I just heard back. The official word is “The warning label is a requirement for exporting into the US because we have not undergone skin patch testing (which is not required with the natural nature of our product).”
So, it sounds like it’s just a formality for exporting here to the US.

Thank you so much for the info!! Just ordered mine and am so excited!!!

I tried to dig around online but there was so much extraneous info that it was hard for me to determine. Since this is a non-toxic beauty brand and presented by Boxwalla who cares a lot about the ingredients, I can’t imagine it’s anything more than a generic warning that is required in Australia. My gut feeling is that it’s similar to natural products here that are not FDA approved, BUT I certainly cannot confirm that at all. There sometimes seem to be a lot of hoops that brands need to jump through to get things tested or certified that small companies simply cannot afford to do (similar to being certified organic), so it may be something like that as well.
I did find a longer disclaimer on the Lepaar site:
“*certified organic **certified Demeter biodynamic ^wildcrafted “certified cosmetic.
We use only 100% natural, certified biodynamic, certified organic and chemical free wildcrafted ingredients, either grown and processed by ourselves or sourced from people we trust.
The safety of our skincare compositions has not been determined. Use at own risk. Lepaar makes no claims, all details provided are for informational purpose only and are not certified or endorsed by the TGA, NICAS, FDA or any other regulating body. Don’t use while pregnant or breastfeeding.
CONTRA INDICATIONS
Our non-pregnancy dedicated compositions contain therapeutic-grade essential oils, which may interfere with prescription drugs and are advised not to be used in pregnancy, breastfeeding, diabetes and where serious health conditions are present.
Botanical residue may settle at the bottom of the container due to the raw, unfiltered nature of our ingredients. The hand-applied wax seals may slip off, due to their organic nature.
PREGNANCY
Don’t use anything containing essential oils when pregnant, they are very powerful and can interfere with your and your baby’s natural rhythm. Please see our pregnancy range especially formulated without any essential or hormone-interfering oils for glowing mamas and happy babies.
HAND-BLENDED AT FULL MOON OR NEW MOON. BIODYNAMIC, ORGANIC, WILDCRAFTED. 100% FREE OF FILLERS, NUT OILS/BUTTERS, CO2 EXTRACTS, SOLVENT EXTRACTS, MINERAL OILS, PRESERVATIVES, STABILISERS, FRAGRANCES. NEVER TESTED ON ANIMALS.”

Let me reach out to Boxwalla to see if they can shed any light since it’s a super valid concern!

Any word back from Lepaar? I’m wanting to order the box but I am hesitant until I know for sure what the warning pertains to exactly.

Bee

Thank you so much for looking into this!! I’d love to hear what you hear back from them!

§ 740.10 Warning: If the cosmetic product contains an ingredient for which adequate substantiation of safety has not been obtained a warning must be placed on the PDP like “Warning —The safety of this product has not been determined”….Good question, I want to know which ingredient?
