Slay Glam Box November 2019 Review
Slay Glam sends an info card each month with an itemized list of what’s in your box, including retail values.
If you follow @slayglambox on Instagram, the box curator enables subscribers to choose certain items each month by DMing or commenting your item choice; I love this feature! There weren't any special options this month, but there is usually one or two items you're able to customize.
Bellapierre 4 Piece Face Slay Kit - Retail Value $55
This is quite a kit! This complexion-perfecting set can help you blend, sculpt, mattify and prolong your makeup. This kit includes Contour & Highlight Duo Stick in Fair/Medium, HD Setting Spray, HD Finishing Powder in Translucent and a Mini Bella Blender Sponge. The sponge was a little denser than what I am used to, but I used it to blend in my foundation, concealer, the contour duo and the translucent powder; I liked it for the cream products, but it didn't seem to evenly blend the powder. The setting powder left a white cast on my face, which looked fine under my eyes but washed out the rest of my complexion. The duo stick contour shade turned straight up orange on my skin, so I ended up going over it with my foundation again, but I really liked the highlighting side. The last step was dousing my face in the Bellapierre HD setting spray. I didn't notice my makeup lasting any longer than when I don't use a setting spray, but it did reduce the white cast and powdery effect of the setting powder I applied all over.
Crown Brush 3 Piece Eyeliner Set - Listed Value $6
I have mixed feelings about these eyeliners. While I appreciate receiving 3 colors to play around with, these eyeliners were a little rough on sensitive eye areas. I would recommend warming them up a bit before using them, and I would steer clear of tight lining with them as well because they all seemed to crumble a little while swatching. Each liner retails for $2, so these could work for you if you're looking for a fun color on the cheap, but they are not up to par with the quality I am used to.
Drip N Diamonds Beauty Diamond Lip Gloss in "Champagne Diamond" - Retail Value $19
Slay Glam introduced me to this brand a few months back, and I have to say, I love the blingy packaging. It has a subtle vanilla scent and feels moisturizing, not sticky, on the lips. I didn't think I'd like this sherbet orange shade, but once applied, I loved the shine and brightness this color brought to my look. Pic below!
Okalan Cosmetics Fancy Eyeshadow Palette - Listed Value $10
This very neutral palette doesn't scream "fancy" to me and neither does the price point. 9 pan palettes are my favorite to travel with, and this has all your neutral warm-toned needs met. 2 shimmers and 7 matte shades were pigmented, swatched evenly, and were true to color when applied with a brush. I was really happy with the look I got from using a few shades in this palette, but they faded a few hours after application (note: I did not use an eye primer).
Medusa's Make-Up Liquid Eyeshadow in Ginger - Retail Value $13
I was really excited to see this brand in this month's bag! Liquid eyeshadow is one of my very favorite products to work with, and Medusa's was different than any others I've tried. Typically liquid shadows dry and set quickly with a flakey finish, but this never truly dried down. It had an oily texture and took some building up to get the pigmentation I wanted; I really liked the effect, and it really didn't budge after I blended it out.
Swatches from left to right: Medusa's liquid eyeshadow in Ginger, Crown Brush eyeliner trio, Drip N Diamonds gloss in Champagne Diamonds
Here is the look I created using most of the makeup products from this month’s Slay Glam Box. I really liked the Okalan shadows and Medusa's liquid shadow in this look as well as the Drip N Diamonds gloss. The best part of this makeup look is how easy the products were to work with--so easy I did it all under 15 minutes while holding an infant, haha.
Verdict: I really liked this month's Slay Glam Box! I feel I received a ton of product this month, mostly good finds, for under $25! This box has a retail value of $103, which I think is great for the price of the subscription. This box would be good for anyone who likes to try products from brands that can often be overlooked or anyone who is looking to build up their makeup arsenal.
