Boxwalla Limited Edition Beauty Box: Two Facets of Joy Review

Here's a double-sided info card highlighting Lovinah Skincare and the products we received.

Lovinah Copper Peptide and EGF Ampoule, 4 x 5 mL - Retail Value $125

Both products featured in this limited-edition box come from Lovinah, a brand owned by Nigerian-born Joy Ekhator that focuses on the sacred beauty and healing herbal traditions of Africa. The ampoule doesn't get its blue color from added colorant, but rather from the Copper Tripeptides in this formula that also features epidermal growth factor, sea kelp bio ferment,  and isotonic seawater. This set comes with four mini vials so the potency isn’t reduced when it comes in contact with oxygen, and the lightweight blue liquid absorbs into my face quickly and leaves no sticky residue. I’ve noticed brighter skin since I’ve started using this, which I attribute to the antioxidants in the formula that also help to prevent damage from pollution and UV rays, and it has been gentle and soothing on my sensitive skin. This is a pricy skincare product, but it just may be worth it- my mask acne has also been reduced since I started incorporating this in my routine.

Lovinah Eye Magic Palette - Retail Value $45

This palette has some magical shimmers inside, and since this company is Black-owned there is the confidence that the pigment will work on those with a much deeper complexion than mine. Even though this has some dramatic colors, it also has some very work-friendly shades. The shimmers pack a gorgeous punch, but the shades Reign and Magical did have some fallout upon application. The shade Be You is a very faint matte that worked well as a base color, and I especially love it paired with the shimmery Miracle.

Here are the swatches!

I did two different looks with this palette (so far). First, on a day I had work and needed to make a court appearance, I took the shade Be You and applied it all over my lids. I added a touch of dimension to the neutral look by adding a soft coat of Miracle on top, and then I took a liner brush to line my eyes with the shade Secret.

Next, I wanted to play with the gorgeous emerald teal shimmer that is the shade Mystical. I tried to use this as the only shade, and I will admit my blending skills could be better here. (I need to wash my makeup brushes, so I don’t think I reached for the fluffiest blending brush I could have.) I started with a heavy application of the shade on my inner lids, and then just blended it out to cover my entire lid with the shade softening the farther out it went. To finish, I applied a bit more of Mystical with my finger for that oomph of pigment and lined my eyes with a random black eyeliner I had on my dresser.

Verdict: This was such a lovely box from Boxwalla! It combines both a luxury makeup and a luxury skincare item from a Black-owned brand that features unique products. This is a limited-edition box, and I think the price is worth it for the skincare product alone. In times like these, it is nice to treat yourself if you’re able- and this definitely felt like a treat. Value-wise, this box has a total retail value of $170, which is more than double the cost of the box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes! But act fast if you're interested.

Value Breakdown: At $69 for this box, here's how much you're paying for each item:

  • Copper Peptide and EGF Ampoule: $50.77
  • Eye Magic Palette: $18.26

If this is still available next week, as a treat for the end of a project, I am getting it right after the final presentation. I am feeling that green on you. That shade is gorgeous. That palette has my name on it.. hang on limited edition box, mama is coming for you. I am sold on the peptides too. Thank you for the review.

They’ve been able to get more of the products but the box will include the super seed oil mini instead of the intense night oil.

They sent an email that says
However, we have been able to get more of the Cleansing oil and Super Seed Serum but not the intense oil. So we have been able to open the August Subscriptions again (yay!) but with a twist.

This version of the August Beauty Box that is currently available has a travel size of the Super Seed Facial oil instead of the travel size of the Intense Night oil, but other than that it is the same box! I am so excited for you to experience this lush ritual from Lovinah & Votary. Please Note: This Box will ship in September!
