Look Fantastic September 2020 Review
Included was a nice booklet with loads of info on our products this month.
Illamasqua Mini OMG Highlighter, 2 g - Estimated Value $12.86 (Buy 7 g for $45.00)
Subscribers will receive this OR a highlighter from The Balm.
From the name of this highlighter, I was expecting in-your-face sparkle and shine, but this little square is actually quite demure. It is a pale champagne shimmer that is actually pretty darn natural looking when applied with a fluffy brush. It is a warmer shade but not yellow at all, and gives a soft candlelit glow to my face.
This is a heavier sort of swatch, but application with a brush is very soft.
Elemis Pro-collagen Marine Cream, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $40.00 (Buy a full-size 1.6 fl oz for $128.00)
I enjoy Elemis products but this one isn't my favorite, mainly because of the fragrance. It reminds me a lot of an AHAVA scent, which loads of people like, but I just can't get into. Putting that aside, this cream boasts loads of antioxidants and botanicals (like rose, mimosa, ginkgo, carrot, and chlorella) as well as hydrators like shea and vitamin E. It feels really soft on my skin and absorbs readily.
Mini Diego Dalla Palma Lip Liner, size unknown - Buy a full-size pencil for $14.70
I honestly don't reach for lip liners all that often, unless I am using them all over my entire lip. This dusty rose shade is absolutely perfect as an allover color! The pigment here is great and it is also quite smooth. Using a liner over my entire lip alone or even with a gloss topper means I get hours and hours of color wear.
It is a great shade of dusty pink.
ESPA Pink Hair & Scalp Mud, 30 mL - Estimated Value $12.00 (Buy a full-size 180 mL for $72.00)
I already have a drier scalp, so I was a little hesitant to try this, but I can happily report I enjoyed it a lot. It smells great and actually cleansed away some of the product buildup on my scalp. I applied this to damp, towel-dried hair and massaged it in. I have really thick hair so I did end up using all of this tube, sadly. I then waited for about 20 minutes and rinsed. My hair was a little squeaky, but not worryingly so, and my roots felt a lot lighter! I get a little dandruff on the edges of my hairline pretty often and it can be really itchy and annoying. Instead of exacerbating this issue, this treatment actually had a calming effect and reduced a lot of the redness in those areas for me.
Luxie 209 Large Shader Brush - Retail Value $15.00 (currently on sale for $10.50)
This cute little pink brush is dense and fluffy, and a great choice for blending into the crease of your next eye look. It is also large enough to use for precision highlighting if you so desire!
Brushworks Jade Roller - Retail Value $11.15
Rollers get a lot of press for shaping and depuffing the face (I prefer a gua sha for that personally) but their true magic, IMO, is how they can massage those tiny and often overlooked facial muscles that most of us hold tons of tension in. My tension point is mostly around the procerus, which is between the brows. I can actually feel little knots there sometimes! Taking a cool roller like this and massaging those areas firmly feels so good. I honestly didn't even realize I was holding so much tension in my face until I started playing around with a rose quartz roller, similar to this one. I like to keep mine in the fridge, apply a nice facial oil or serum, and massage in firm but short strokes. The smaller end of this tool is perfect for those tinier areas!
LookFantastic Pop Socket
Our last item is a black LookFantastic branded PopSocket. I don't really use these but I know of a few beauty friends who do, and I will happily pass it along!
The Verdict: This month's Look Fantastic Beauty Box had a value of around $91 for the items I could verify. This estimate does not include the lip liner or Pop Socket. That isn't a bad value for a $19 box, though most of that estimated value is tied up in the Elemis cream. I think most people might really enjoy that though! I thought this selection was well rounded too. You had some makeup, some hair product, skincare, and some tools. While this might not have been the most exciting box, I think this Birthday edition was really well done for this brand.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be October. (This page will let you know which box is currently available.)
Value Breakdown: At $19.00 for this box, each of the 6 items has an average cost of $3.17. (I omitted the Pop Socket in this breakdown.)
