First Impressions
This was my first-ever LookFantastic box, and I’m nervous, excited, and intrigued. I hadn’t realized this subscription was UK-based, and I’m very interested to see how the curation varies from a US-based box.
What's Inside the Box
Ecooking Cleansing Gel, 125ml – Estimated Value $19.86
I’m sure I have never heard of this brand because I would have remembered the unique name. I’m always slightly skeptical of brands I’ve never heard of, but I was also excited to receive a gel-based cleanser. When I washed my face, the gel texture was cool and calming against my skin and left my face feeling clean and fresh without making me feel like all the moisture had just been sucked out of it. The scent is mild enough that it doesn’t bother me. In fact, it’s more of a fresh fruit-like scent rather than the chemical perfume scent some cleansers have. I like this product, and I also really enjoy the packaging. It is sleek, clean, and minimalistic. But besides that, this cleanser comes in a pump just like a gel hand soap. I’m not a fan of cleansers that need to have their caps unscrewed each and every time. Flip-tops aren’t so bad… But this pump. This pump is truly fabulous. I hope more brands start packaging their products like this.
Filorga Oxygen Glow Cream, 15ml – Estimated Value $14.10
I was excited to open this month’s box and find a product from Filorga. I have tried a few of their products before and have always found them to be of high quality. This product is a ‘super-perfecting’ day cream that says it provides real results before your eyes, providing a radiant appearance upon application. Now, this glow cream does a good job of keeping my skin moisturized for sure, and it even did bring a bit of glow to my face. But did it instantly enhance my skin? I didn’t notice. I have pretty oily skin, so this cream is not the best for someone like me to apply during the day in the warmer months. In Los Angeles, we don’t really have your classic ‘winter’ weather, but on those slightly chillier days, this cream will work perfectly. The texture of the product on my face makes me think it wouldn’t be the best for wearing in tandem with makeup, so I’ll likely try using this cream during the cooler weather. I’m first and foremost a lover of gel-based products because products with cream-based formulas like this one can break my skin out. So far, this glow cream hasn’t clogged my pores! I look forward to seeing if it ‘super-perfects’ my skin over time!
The Vintage Cosmetic Company Scrunchies, 2 pc – Retail Value $6.99
I love the vibrant yellow color of these scrunchies. I’m gonna be honest with you… Back when scrunchies first became a big thing, they never had the strength to hold my hair in a ponytail or a bun. So, I was forced to first do the style with a hair elastic and to simply use the scrunchie for decoration. I couldn’t be one of those carefree gals with a scrunchie on her wrist and her hair flying free, headed to her Jazzercise class, quickly swooping her hair up into a ponytail with her scrunchie. It would never work. My hair would just pop right out. But these scrunchies actually work for me! I can put my hair half-up, half-down, in a bun, or a ponytail, and it stays put. I can shake my head back and forth. I can even jump up and down. Now, that is impressive. I call this progress. To top it all off, these scrunchies are made from soft satin, and they don’t pull, snag, or rip my hair. I’m very excited to have found scrunchies that work for me, and now I’m obsessed with wearing one on my wrist. I just feel super-cool.
Philip Kingsley Bond Builder, 20ml – Estimated Value $14
Now, this is what I call a unique product… Philip Kingsley’s Bond Builder is for strengthening and repairing hair, instantly sealing split ends. The product lasts up to three washes per application. To me, it looks like this was made for people with much finer, straighter hair than my thicc curls. This bond builder works using hydrolyzed oat protein, which helps to soften hair texture, assist in hydration, and aid moisture retention. Bonus -- this little product has a unique blend of waxes that do a nice job of moisturizing cuticles of your fingers during application. Having split ends isn’t a problem I typically deal with, so I will be passing this product on to a friend of mine. Her hair is much finer in texture, and she has expressed struggles with split ends and breakage, so if this product indeed delivers as it says, she’ll get much more use out of it than I would.
Rituals Ritual of Mehr Body Cream, 70ml – Estimated Value $6.80
I tend to be very particular about my body creams and am more likely to use a body oil than a cream any day. This Rituals body cream works nicely overall, leaving my skin feeling fresh, soft, and hydrated. It does leave behind a bit of a greasy feel that I could do without. When applying, I was smacked in the face with a powerful punch of a sweet citrus scent. Many people out there will likely enjoy this scent, but for me, it’s a bit strong, especially for a cream that’s meant to go on my entire body. It has a scent that reminds me of those candles everyone used to light outside as soon as it got dark out during the summer... That said, the overall fragrance dissipated quickly, leaving behind more of a faint scent on my skin. One thing I want to mention is that this body cream does contain alcohol. I don’t know about you, but I tend to stay away from moisturizers, creams, and lotions that contain harsh ingredients. Although this cream would work in a pinch, I’ll stick with my body oils for now.
Dr Botanical Turmeric Mask, 30ml – Retail Value $16.06
I’m no stranger to Dr Botanicals. I’ve received tubes of the brand’s masks from various subscriptions and found them to be great products. In general, I’m more of a sheet mask or peel-off mask kind of girl. This turmeric mask, however, caught my eye. It’s said to provide a moisturizing treatment that improves the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots while brightening and balancing out skin tone. There it is, the magic words… ‘Dark spots.’ I have a few scars from childhood that have all but disappeared except for the fact that they’re a shade or two darker than the rest of my skin. So, I’m always looking out for products that can help. This mask has a light fresh scent, not too powerful, which is a win in my book. Upon application, its texture reminds me of a thick lotion but when it dries down, it’s more like a facial peel, and then washes off like a foam. The mask left my skin feeling moisturized, not stripped or dry, and didn’t break out my sensitive skin. This is the kind of product that will hopefully provide a long-term improvement over time, so I’m excited to see how it goes.
Verdict
I think this was a great LookFantastic box! I love that all the products that were included were from European brands. I have to say, my favorite item is definitely the Vintage Cosmetics hair scrunchies. The bright color really draws my eyes, and I love that they’re adorable yet strong. The Ecooking cleansing gel is a great cleanser and also from a brand I’ve never had a chance to try. I also really enjoy the Dr Botanicals turmeric mask. It’s delightfully hydrating, and I have high hopes that it will help me even out my skin tone. Rituals’ body cream may have a stronger scent than I like, but it is hydrating, and I’ll definitely hang onto it as a backup moisturizer. I’m also very excited about the Philip Kingsley bond builder. I hope the product helps my friend solve her split-end problem once and for all. Lastly, the Filorga glow cream -- a bit heavy but good to have on days when even oily skin might need a little extra help. Overall, this was a solid box for me. It had diverse products, some I’ve never tried, and I really enjoy the novelty of receiving a UK subscription box that features all European brands.
