First Impressions
Boxwalla always has the prettiest boxes. I hang on to them and use them for my art supplies. They are hefty and handmade, and all-around wonderful!
We didn't have an info card this month (our box was sent out early for this review!) but here is some insight from Boxwalla:
Verité was founded by Janin Dei Conti who is a trained aromatherapist. She says, " I had become quite disenchanted with the skincare industry and advertising that made me feel I had to conform to a certain standard to be okay, to look okay, skin treatments that left my skin feeling worse than when I arrived, and no real connection between therapist and customer. So I began to create a range of skincare and treatments that I would want to experience in a spa environment. Researching, and working with the most skin-loving plant botanicals to create a truly holistic experience. Treatments that when you walked out of one, you felt completely loved, nurtured, replenished, and rejuvenated on all levels".
I discovered & first tried Verité in 2020. I still remember when my package from Janin arrived all the way from New Zealand. And when I slathered her potions on my face & hands, I just knew: HERE was an incredibly special brand. A brand that distilled the potency of plants into extraordinarily effective & pleasurable products with thoughtful, careful sourcing of the highest quality botanicals. There was that ‘something’ that I always look for in brands - that something intangible that distinguishes a good brand from a great brand, that comes from a lot of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating an extraordinary product, and that can't always be gleaned from ingredient lists.
The Items
Verité Good Night Recover & Repair Sleep Mask, 50 ml - Retail Value $136 USD
I was not expecting this mask to be a jelly mask, but I was actually delighted by this! It has a little blobby texture that almost feels like applying baby food to your face, but, you know, make it glamorous. The texture had a little bit of a learning curve because I had a hard time estimating how much I would need the first few times I applied. Hint: Much less than you think. It has a pleasant scent that is somehow sharp but also creamy, and not overly sweet. To my delight, my favorite little green plant cica is #5 on the ingredient list. This is one of my go-to's for redness reduction as well as a general sense of skin calm (that's a thing). In addition, this formula also has rooibos tea antioxidants, probiotics, Manuka honey, hyaluronic acid, and a boat-load of botanical extracts to round out this delightful little mask. The only downside for me personally is that in terms of season, this is a spring+summer treat for me. The jelly texture just isn't heavy enough for what I like at night. It does indeed leave my face feeling pretty darn great when I apply it, but I need a little more to wake up in the morning feeling as moisturized as I want to right now.
Verité Japanese Lemon, Vanilla & Jasmine Hand Cream, 70 mL - Retail Value $27 USD
Hand cream is something I wholeheartedly welcome during the winter. My hands spend a lot of time in hot water, and that combined with the cold winter air is a recipe for ugly and miserable hands and cuticles. I know some subscribers might wish this was something else entirely, but as someone who never treats herself to hand products, I am more than happy to have one forced upon me right now. And this one features my all-time favorite fruit: Yuzu! It is a fruit from Japan that bears many similarities to lemons. And it's oddly nostalgic for me because we had a close family friend who would bring me back yuzu candies from her travels to Japan. The scent and taste feel like lemon but with less tartness and more "depth", I would say. It is a great flavor! This stuff is creamy vanilla and yuzu, combined perfectly. It's a wonderful smell that is cozy and also unisex enough for your husband to steal it a few times (COUGH). It also absorbs nicely and leaves hands feeling soothed and soft. I am very happy with it!
Verdict
This Boxwalla Beauty box had a total value of $163 which is marvelous for a $49.95 box. This was a new brand to me and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring these two items. Both felt special and really unique in a wonderful way. The sleep mask makes me smile whenever I feel the jelly texture and my face is loving it. The hand cream is now hiding in my purse so I don't have to share it. Sorry, not sorry.
