First Impressions
December is almost here, and I couldn’t wait to see how TokyoTreat would celebrate my favorite month. With a festive "Very Merry Snackmas" greeting, I knew I was in for a treat, and the packaging alone had me excited. This month, the bright red and green box arrived at my doorstep, packed with fourteen snacks straight from Japan. As my third TokyoTreat box, I can confidently say it’s one of the most fun subscriptions I’ve ever unboxed—I'm definitely a fan! Keep reading to see what I discovered.
What's Inside the Box
To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, I am already feeling like family! ❤️
Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!
Snowy Chocolate Crepe KitKats - Retail Value $8.00
Kit Kats have always been one of my favorite candies. When Charlie was little, we'd visit my grandma's house, and she’d always give him a Kit Kat bar. He loved them, but had a habit of squirreling them away in the freezer instead of eating them right away. Even after my grandma passed, Charlie still enjoyed Kit Kats from her for months! While this version isn’t the classic, I honestly think it’s even better. These white chocolate bars are not only beautiful, but they taste amazing too. The crispy wafer combined with the creamy white chocolate was a perfect pairing, and the snowflake packaging made it feel like a special December treat. So delicious!
Merry Mentaiko Mayo Chips
I love a good mix of savory and sweet foods, and these mayo chips fit the bill perfectly on the savory side. Featuring Japanese mayo and a spiced pollock roe, these chips were shaped like a scoop and had a complex seafood flavor with a tart finish of mayo. While they were a little too much for my kids, I enjoyed them and found the unique flavor tasty.
Fudgey Festive Choco Pie
I love a good chocolate pie every now and again, and this Japanese version has it going on! Featuring a rich chocolate filling, the extra chocolatey coating made for a decadent treat when paired with a cup of coffee. Extra rich in flavor, this was definitely a sweet snack that we wouldn't mind receiving again!
Mistletoe Mochi Donut Gummies
Gummies are one of my kids favorite snacks, and this version was a little different than ones we were used to. Hard in texture and shaped a little like the rounds you put in a cap gun, these also could be likened to a Christmas wreath! The strawberry flavor was natural and delish, but they were a little harder to chew than we were expecting. Overall, my boys enjoyed these and thought the fun shape made them extra special.
Winter Wonder Waffle Chips
Chips are definitely one of my weaknesses, and I have to say, these are the most unique chips I have ever come across in my 36 years. Shaped like round waffles, these ultra crunchy chips are large and taste just like sour cream and onion Lays, but in a more impactful and powerful way. (Which I loved!) Overall, this was one of my favorite inclusions of the month, and I definitely wouldn't mind a repeat of this treat!
Warming Tom Yum Pretzel Sticks
So far this month's TokyoTreat is really a good mix of sweet and savory snacks, and this next one was a little spicy! Contained in a little cardboard box, we received a package of zesty, spicy pretzel sticks that taste like Tom Yum soup. With the common allergens of shrimp, wheat, dairy, and soybeans, these don't have a fishy taste, but do warm you up when eating!
Ghana Holiday Truffles
Truffles are definitely one of my favorite holiday treats, and this version exceeded expectations. Not only were they beautifully packaged in a charming box, but the flavor was exceptional. The rich, melt-in-your-mouth ganache paired with the crunch of salted biscuits creates a fantastic combination. Sweet at first with a perfectly salty finish, these truffles are definitely a top contender for this month's best flavor!
Cozy Caramel Corn Puffs & Nuts
Here in the United States I have had cheese corn puffs as well as a caramel version, but the ones I have had are more rounded in shape without the peanuts. I love the larger size of this Japanese version, and the inclusion of peanuts is amazing! Sweet, salty, and airy - these are a great light snack for school and the kids loved them!
Festive Foamy Fizz
I love the fact that TokyoTreat includes a drink or drink mix each month, and this month's foamy fizz strawberry version was AMAZING! After reading the booklet I discovered you can use the package as the drinking container but decided to pour it into a cup for easier photographing. Mixed with cold water, this mix creates a crazy white foam and delicious fizzy strawberry flavor. Seriously powerful in taste, this was one of the best and most fun drink mixes I have ever used! We definitely need this in the United States!
Silent Night Sesame Crackers
The next snack we received was super elegant and had an amazing taste. These large, scalloped edged sesame crackers are nutty and crisp but have a light dusting of sugar on the top for a sweet and savory mix. Honestly, I am impressed they arrived intact with how delicate these little crackers are! Send more please!
Jolly Cola Chew
In the three months that I have received this box, I have discovered that Japan definitely appreciates all things cola flavored! This month we received a rope -type candy that has a creamy filling and cola-flavored outside. Chewy and sweet, it slightly reminds me of the consistency of a "Cow Tail" candy, but with a fizzy, lemony cola flavor. Odd at first, it is sort of addicting, and Charlie actually loved it.
Yuletide Yakisoba
My kids love Ramen noodles, so they were happy to receive this authentic version. Flavored with powdered bonito and mackerel, they aren't quite sure what to expect, but are excited to give it a try. Perfect for a lazy afternoon, I'm thinking this will be the perfect lunch for a day this weekend when we can cozy up and eat noodles while playing board games.
Seaweed & Sauce Christmas Crunch
I have to say, this was one of the most peculiar snacks of the month. Looking like little potatoes or tater tots, I wasn't sure what to expect from these little seasoned snacks, but found they were quite zesty! These puffs have a puffed corn texture but featured a vinegary flavor paired with seaweed. My kids thought these were interesting and I thought they were pretty good after mulling it around for a while. Unlike any snack I've ever eaten, it is so much fun trying these new things!
Sleigh-bell Salted Cheese Cookie Sandwich
The last item we received was probably my least favorites, and it wasn't even bad. This little cookie is shaped like a macaroon, but instead of a sweet filling, it features salted cheese. The smell from the package was pretty strong, so I was a little nervous to try it, but found it to pair nicely with the buttery cookie, and even found myself wanting more.
The Verdict
As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes, but this was only my third review of TokyoTreat. After browsing through the pamphlet, tasting all of the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, I can say I am beyond impressed with this subscription. I found this month to be the perfect mix of sweet and savory snacks, and loved the fun nods to Christmas this box gave. With fourteen authentic snacks, my family and I enjoyed everything! My kids are loving the fun packaging and already are looking forward to January's box. Any ideas on the theme?! Comment below!

To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you are able to sign up to receive this particular box until 12/15.
Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 14 different Japanese snacks. At about $3.57 a pack, this is a bit more pricy than some American snacks, but because it is shipping from Japan and creates an entire experience, it's unlikely you could order these snacks separately for cheaper.
