First Impressions

March is almost here and I can't even believe I am saying this, but in just a couple weeks my husband will be 40, and my baby boy will be 10! Ekkkkk!! Where has the time gone?! To help celebrate these ginormous milestones, the March TokyoTreat box landed on my doorstep to start the month off with a bang! Featuring a bright pink box that incorporates all things cherry blossoms and spring, I knew this box was going to be epic. This month's fun-filled box arrived at my doorstep, packed with thirteen snacks straight from Japan. With some TokyoTreat box experience under my belt, I can confidently say it’s one of the most fun subscriptions I’ve ever unboxed—I'm definitely a fan! Keep reading to see what I discovered.
What's Inside the Box
To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, I am already feeling like family! ❤️
Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!
Strawberry Shortcake KitKats - Retail Value $5.99
My kids and I absolutely love Strawberry Shortcake KitKats—they're a fun, delicious twist on a classic treat! The moment you open the wrapper, you're hit with the amazing scent of fresh strawberries and sweet cake, like opening a bakery box filled with goodness. The creamy strawberry coating and crispy wafer layers make every bite taste like a perfect little dessert! We definitely wouldn't be upset if we received another package of this flavor in the future, as they disappeared a little too quickly....
Sakura Petal Marshmallows
The Sakura Petal Marshmallows were soft, sweet, and had a delicate hint of sakura that made them absolutely delightful. They were delicious on their own, but also paired beautifully with hot chocolate, adding a light floral touch to every sip. Charlie loved them so much he was eating them by the handful! Such a lovely treat and a perfect way to welcome spring!
Peach Mochi
The next item we received was peach mochi, and they were probably the most strange inclusion since they were wrapped in edible rice paper. At first, I thought we had faulty packaging, only to realize that you actually eat what sort of resembles plastic—crazy! Once we got past the surprise, the soft, chewy texture and sweet, juicy peach flavor made them absolutely delicious. Definitely a fun and unique treat that we ended up loving!
Sakura Blossom Cake
The Sakura Blossom Cake was soft, sweet, and packed with the delicate flavor of cherry blossoms—such a lovely treat! For a prepackaged cake, it was surprisingly moist, making each bite even more enjoyable. The pretty pink center was not only alluring to look at but also extra tasty, adding to the whole experience. The kids and I absolutely loved it and would happily enjoy it again!
Sour Plum Salt Crackers
The next item we received was sour plum salt crackers, and their foamy texture was slightly comparable to styrofoam, but with a hint of sweet and salt. I couldn’t really detect the sour plum flavor and didn’t necessarily care for this treat, but Charlie had a completely different experience! He packed them up for his school snack and had a blast sharing this unique Japanese treat with all his buddies. It was fun to try something so different, and seeing Charlie enjoy them made them a good inclusion.
Sakura Donut
The Sakura Donut was so different from the soft, fluffy American donuts we’re used to—it was ultra crispy and soaked in sakura syrup to celebrate the spring cherry blossoms. It had a firm, almost hard texture with a caramelized flavor that I really enjoyed. The kids weren’t big fans, but I thought the unique taste and crunch made it a special treat. A fun way to experience a little taste of spring in a whole new way!
Pistachio & Strawberry Pai no Mi
The Pistachio & Strawberry Pai no Mi was hands down my favorite item in the March box! The sweet pistachio and tart strawberry flavors came together perfectly to create a delicious little mini pie. With 64 flaky layers and a creamy pistachio-flavored chocolate center, every bite was pure heaven. These treats were the absolute best, and I’m already praying for more to be sent my way in the future. If you get the chance to try them, don’t hesitate—they’re that good!
Senbei Spring Mix
The Senbei Spring Mix was such a fun snack, featuring seven different flavors like sakura salt, plain, sakura fried shrimp, matcha cream, honey and soy sauce, and black. It was a little like playing roulette since you never knew which shape would be which flavor! Overall, we enjoyed the entire mix, but the honey and soy sauce variety was definitely our favorite. A crunchy, flavorful treat that made snack time extra exciting!
Baked Potato Poricky Sticks
The Baked Potato Poricky Sticks were a tasty, crispy snack with a nice buttery flavor and a subtle hint of bacon. Their long, thin shape made them fun to eat, almost like crunchy breadsticks with a savory twist. While we enjoyed them, they weren’t quite as flavorful as we had hoped, but they still had a nice, light taste. They’re a great snack for when you want something crispy and mildly savory without being overpowering. Overall, a fun and easy treat to munch on!
Onion Puffs
Onion Puffs are light, crispy, and absolutely packed with bold, savory flavor. Seriously, they’re so strong that you might want to brush your teeth before giving your significant other a smooch! If you love oniony snacks with a big punch, these are a must-try, but my boys thought they were a little overpowering!
Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen
We absolutely loved the inclusion of a full meal with the Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen—it made us feel like gourmet chefs in our own kitchen! The noodles are deliciously salty, and the pork bone broth is rich and flavorful, making every slurp a satisfying experience. It was fabulous on its own, but we couldn't help but imagine how much better it would have been with a soft-boiled egg and green onions, just like in the photo. Honestly, it's like they were teasing us with that perfect ramen topping combo! Still, this ramen hit the spot, and we can't wait to have it again (with all the extras next time)!
Blossom-Viewing Chocolate Bites
The Blossom-Viewing Chocolate Bites are like a cute, springtime version of M&Ms! Their pastel colors are so fun and festive, and the chocolate is super rich and delicious. Perfect for a little sweet treat that really puts you in the mood for spring! I definitely recommend these tasty little snacks, though the package could have contained a little more! 🤣
Crispy Fried Rice Crackers
The last item we received was a small package of Crispy Fried Rice Crackers. Coated in a slightly sweet soy sauce, these crackers are flavor-packed and super tasty. The kids couldn’t get enough of these little crunchy bites and absolutely loved the delicious flavor. They did wish there were a few more in the package, but we all enjoyed every last bite. Yum!
The Verdict
As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes, and after more than a few months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say this is my favorite snack box of all time. After browsing through the pamphlet, tasting all of the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, I can say I am beyond impressed with this subscription. This month's curation was rounded out very nicely with the amount of sweet and savory snacks, and we enjoyed every single one! My favorite was definitely the box of Pistachio & Strawberry Pai no Mi, but I really did enjoy everything. With thirteen authentic snacks, my family and I enjoyed everything, which statistically amazing! My kids are loving the fun packaging and already are looking forward to April's box. To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you are able to sign up to receive this particular box until 3/15.
Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 13 different Japanese snacks. At about $3.84 a pack, this is a bit pricier than some American snacks, but because it is shipping from Japan and creates an entire experience, it's unlikely you could order these snacks separately for cheaper.
