How Universal Yums Works
Travelling the world with Universal Yums starts by choosing your subscription. Boxes come in three sizes: small boxes of 5-7 snacks, medium boxes of 10-12 snacks, or the large box with 18-20 snacks.
There are usually multiple country theme boxes active at any time, so each month you can pick which country you want to visit next, starting with your very first box.
In your box you’ll receive the snacks, a booklet with relevant information and nutrition facts, and the larger boxes come with bonus trivia, recipes, and more.
Example Universal Yums Themes

- Booklet comes with tons of information about the country of the month
- Rating card lets you record your favorites

- Does not accommodate dietary restrictions, so be sure to check the nutrition facts contained within the booklet
What Else You Should Know About Universal Yums
You probably won’t enjoy every single snack, but that’s OK. The booklet that comes with your box gives you more information about each snack so you have an idea of what to expect, but also comes with a rating card so you can write down your notes about what you thought about each snack.
Boxes are temporary. If you see a country you’re interested in, be sure to grab it or it might be a long time before it comes back.
Is Universal Yums Worth It?
After reviewing Universal Yums over 60 times and seeing our readers consistently vote it as one of the best snack subscriptions, we think Universal Yums is definitely worth trying, and there are many great ways to try a box.
Universal Yums is great for families with kids - the pamphlet comes with lots of info for kids to learn about each country and kids love trying snacks. Since the supply is small, it of course won’t last the whole month, but that could be a good thing to limit the amount of sugary snacks they get, and they’ll be excited when the next box comes.
Universal Yums makes a great gift for anyone, too. Not everyone is willing to splurge on exotic snacks for themselves, but it’s always fun to try new things and most Universal Yums boxes show people new snacks they might not otherwise have ever tried.
If you are someone who has dietary restrictions, isn't a big snacker overall, or otherwise if you know what snacks you love and don’t need to experiment, then Universal Yums might not be worth it for you.
How Universal Yums Compares to Other Top Snack Subscriptions
Universal Yums VS Snack Crate: These snack subscriptions both send you boxes themed around a country from around the world, and they both have small, medium, or large options. Snack Crate is $26.99 for the medium option, while Universal Yums is $28. Universal Yums sends you more information in each box with their booklet, so you can actually learn more about the countries other than just trying the snacks. Snack Crate does have you answer a couple key questions, such as whether you prefer sweet or savory snacks, which supposedly impacts the specific snacks you receive.
Universal Yums VS Try the World: Try The World is a food and snack subscription that also lets you try foods from countries all around the world, but it has a $49.99 option that comes with food you can cook in larger portions in addition to the snacks in their $29 snacks-only option. Unlike Universal Yums, you won’t be able to pick the country each month. Try The World might be better for people who want that cooking experience and not just the tasting experience.
Universal Yums VS Bokksu: Bokksu is one of the most popular snack subscriptions, however it only focuses on Japanese snacks compared to snacks from countries all over the world. Bokksu costs $49.99 but comes with more snacks than Universal Yums’ biggest box plus a magazine covering Japanese culture.
